Default Scimitar build

Well, I built my third TLP kit and I am quite proud of this one. I did a few modifications internaly on the recovery system and added aluminum flashing to the rear to keep the motors from burning the end up. I decided to go with a nice paint job, rather than trying to make it look like a military rocket. Here are some of the build photos.

Here are the photos after assembly and prior to finishing.

Next is the mods I did to it. The TLP kits use a motor mount coupler up front to seperate the parachute compartment from the rest of the body. I added a D ring, supported on the opposite side of the ring with a piece of balsa and heavily glued in place to attach a steel leader for the shock cord, which I replaced the original 1/4" 4 foot shock cord with a 3/8" 10" shock cord.

Next I used a piece of .01 aluminum flashing to line the inside of the aft area so the motors will not burn the cardboard tube up.

Wow! Great build and even greater paint job.

I love flames but I'm terrible at making them. Yours look fantastic. Any advice?

Again, great looking rocket.

Thanks, this was my first flame job, all I did was draw out the flames I wanted on a large piece of butcher paper, or I guess you could print a pattern on the computer too. I just wrapped it around and taped it at the squared off ends and used thin slivers of masking tape to mask off the details. After that I shot it with some clear coat, let it dry some and then I painted it right up.

Dont know if that helps any, just make sure if you layer colors that they are compatable with each other. I spray my second color on with my first having a tack to it still.

Thanks. No nose weight added as of yet. With D's in it the CG is 1.25 calibers ahead of the CP. I might add some later on if E's change the CG too much. Adding the extra bit up there for the recovery system balanced it out some I guess.
