How far in when the thrust ring 'grabbed'? You could probably still fly it 'as is' just that the motor would be sticking out and look funky on the pad..It would move the CP back some as well as the CG slightly, but I am thinking the CP would move aft more then the CG and should still be in the 'stable' region...

I've already figured out that screaming loudly and cursing loudly make no difference in how crappy I still feel. Anyone have someone or something that needs to be dead?
Anyway, I'm going to be able to slide an 18mm tube into the ring and use another for the aft end, but I wanted to fly this bird on a D12-7. I am &$@%ing bummed!

If more folks would key into using epoxy for this application, 'grabbing' would never, ever happen to anyone.

Yeah, anymore I never use yellow glue for thrust rings in minimum-diameter rockets, and only use it with regular engine mounts when the fit is a bit loose. I stuck a 13mm mount in a BT-20 once, wrecking the rocket I was building, and that was the end of that.

But that did fail me with my Hercules... the engine mount, glued in with epoxy, ejected on the second flight, leaving a smooth epoxy coating in the sustainer. I'll epoxy in the replacement (I'll have to, yellow glue won't grab on the slick epoxy lining) but I'll use more of it for sure.

Bill,

Bummer about the grabbing. After you chill, trying digging it out. You may need to kludge up a tool to do it, but it's just a paper ring, right? Surely it can be ground out and replaced. Maybe try a round wood rasp followed with a small sanding drum on a Dremel.

Not to beat a dead horse, but, "Epoxy, a little dab'll do ya."

BTW, I really like the looks of that thing. You've put some excellent craftsmanship into it. Makes me want to build one

Or go ahead and finish it with an 18mm mount and use D10s (or D21s) from valuerockets.com for those D-impulse flights. Not as easy to get lit as a BP D12 but they would work.

Independence Day was just over a week ago. Take all those leftover firecrackers and stuff them up next to the centering ring.

I thought about it, but it would just look goofy. I think this means that the upscale will be E powered.

Or white glue. All I had at work was yellow, so I figured "What can it hurt?" Answered that question pretty well, eh?

Yeah, I've been thinking along these lines all morning. I may just go 18mm for NARAM, then see what I can do about making the change.
I did do a pretty nice job on the tubes, but the basswood struts are pretty messy. I think it will look okay once I paint it, but it's not beauty queen.
