Exclamation New Design -- Centuri Lancer 1.37X

Back in June 2009, I put out the following call for Centuri Lancer KD-1 patterns:

http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showp...698&postcount=1

Tim "timorley" came to my rescue about a week ago:
(Thanks to Earl Cagle for volunteering to help)

http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showp...95&postcount=16

And a week ago, all that information let to the following: a 1.37X upscale from ST-7 to ST-10. My now-standard files are attached, including my first-ever fin pattern (at 200 dpi) so those of us who *don't* own RockSim can build this "bird."

Given the fairly fast deployment speeds on B motors, I'd suggest substituting a 12" nylon chute for the standard plastic one included in this version.

Enjoy, and please post any comments here!

Yes, I saw where Tim very quickly (much quicker than I could have) responded to your request.

Did you get a good length measurement on the balsa wood body tube 'system tunnel' strips? Any other details that you need that you didn't get? My Lancer is unbuilt and 'out of the box' fresh, so if there are any other details that Tim did not get to that you need, let me know.

Earl,

If I can read the ruler correctly, those are 6" long. Is there anything else that strikes you that I might have missed? If so, please let me know.

Thanks again!

Jay-

Yep, you're good. Just makin' sure you got all you needed.

The only thing I don't think he listed or showed was the 32" x 1.5" long 'burgandy' colored crepe paper streamer (yep, burgandy, not 'red' like the typical Centuri streamer color....maybe that was the color on hand at the time).

Boy, you just can't beat the strength of those Centuri #7 tubes from that time frame...they're hard to even squeeze between two fingers. And with those thick-walled injection molded #7 nosecones of that era as well, I'd think the ol' Lancer there could come in balastic from quite some altitude and not do too much damage.

Dandy little -multi-folded 'Model Rocket Mini Manual' that came in the box too that REALLY dates these 'Stellar' kits: it lists the address for the old 'Model Rocketry' magazine! (in Boston, Mass.), which I guess was out of business by some time the next year (1972 maybe?), after these kits were kitted sometime in '71 (Lancer instructions give an August, 1971 copyright date).

Jay,

The SVG export from RockSim is producing an image that is 10x what it should be, if I'm looking at your plot points correctly. I imported the SVG into Corel DRAW 12 and produced a cutting pattern for Carl, reducing the pattern to 10% (which should make the image correct-size).

Question: In the RKT file, I see the conduits marked as "Basswood". Is this what you want to use, or would a simple set of balsa strips work just as well?

I need to revise the pattern anyway (forgot the hold-together tabs), so if balsa is OK for these, I can add them to the sheet and simplify the burn.

Here's an updated fin sheet with everything done in balsa. Also includes the "hold-in-place" tabs which were missing from the first copy.

Earl, can you doublecheck and determine what wood those "conduit" strips are made of? I was thinking they were basswood, but it's been 35 years since 1975...

Please let us know if those are balsa, birch, or maybe basswood.

Thanks and cheers,

.
