Can you pick up nylon screws at any hobby store? I was looking online and it would cost more to ship then the actual cost of the screws.

Sometimes you can pick them up at hardware stores (like Ace), but it may depend upon the size of the screws.

Default Clear Fin can

I cheat. I usually fabricate the can from a section of BT split lengthwise with a thin strip installed to permit a friction fit. Fill the seams with a thin filler and sand it down. Then I use clear fins from SIG manufacturing clear sheet. The last cheat is to either decal or trim film the lower portion of the roll pattern on the removable can. Not sure if you used the original multiple lugs, or you can cheat the conduits with half round and then stand off the lugs.

Or you can build a pop-lug...

Don't want to steal Bob's thunder, but he built it, brought it to today's launch, flew it, and lost it.
The model looked very good and the fin can was *so* not noticeable.
Flew quite straight, popped right at peak and was taken by the stiff winds into the
next door neighbor's field, where we don't have permission to go.

That's too bad for sure. Per our emails back and forth, I think he mentioned he made more than one fin unit. But losing the model is worse, that takes a whole lot more work than that silly fin assembly.

Hopefully he can talk to that neighbor and get permission to look in the field (at least before it rains).

it's a long story, but we talked to that neighbor in the beginning when we started to use our field, and while conversations have been pleasant, he has apparently been totally indifferent to our plight. Fortunately, it is rare that winds come out of the south or east. Usually the only things we lose there are when a rocket severely weathercocks that way.

http://www.soarrocketry.org/directi...millsprings.asp <-- we fly from the marked field. And yes, that's an airstrip and once or twice a year he scares the bejesus out of us by gliding his plane in over our field and landing through that vegetation gap that you can see!

Sounds to me like a covert night-ops mission is due.

I know you're saying that in jest, but that is the best and quickest way to lose access to launch sites! We already had to smooth things over when a couple of kids, unrelated to us, couldn't deal with the temptation and went over and cut down a small tree to get the rocket hanging there.

Only if you get caught.

But yes, I'm kidding.
