Went to Wallyworld for supplies. I do the self check out. I fed the machine a $10.00. No change. It took 20 minutes for them to fix it. REALLY!

That's because most of the 'associates' there have no knowledge of how to fix anything.
That's what you get when you ALWAYS pay low wages and benefits. I avoid that store like I would avoid an open container of VX.

I was in line at a checkout at Costco, and an associate pointed out to me that the self-checkouts were open. I replied: "I don't work here."

That is EXACTLY how I deal with self-checkouts as well.
Are you giving me 15% off for doing this ? Then no stinkin' way. I don't bag my own groceries either.

I had to call my bank today… went through the self checkout at Walmart and the register timed out processing my 96.67 debit on my bank card. Receipt said declined, system timed out. So I redid the whole order. Lo and behold, I had two debits for 96.67 on my account… Walmart associates were clueless so I had to open a dispute with the bank…

I NEVER do work others should be doing FOR ME.
Give me that 15% off, and I may consider it. I'm not padding their profits for labor they should be supplying. Customer "service" in this country SUCKS because those doing it are not paid enough.

I’m a big fan of the scan as you go apps that Sam’s Club and Wegmans (one of our local grocery chains) have. Scan each item in their app as you put it in the cart and pay from your phone.

Those are even WORSE in my book; it replaces not only physical labor by the company but also capital equipment (register). Do they pass that along to you by giving you another 2% off or whatever you save THEM ?
Hell no, it just lines their pockets with more profit. I don't EVER do work that should ALWAYS be performed FOR ME as a part of DECENT Customer Service. I miss the days of Gasoline Stations that provided Full-Service at self-service prices. For what you get charged for a gallon of 93 Octane, they should be pumping it, Checking your Oil, Tires, and Windshield, and bringing you a beverage.
