Favorites are a personal taste thing. I'm sticking with mine. There are lots of great aircraft in museums that are not in the USAF museum. Have been to the USAF museum about 8 times, first visit in the summer of 1976 and last visit in May of 2019. Really enjoyed seeing all the museum improvements over time. When I visited in 1976, there was only one building, plus outdoor and annex storage. The second building came in 1988, the third in 2003 and the fourth one in 2016. Was lucky enough to visit each incarnation of the facility.

I was fortunate enough to get tours of the airship hangars at Moffett several years ago - before Hangar 1 was partially remediated. Moffett is still the home for both an ANG C130/Pave Hawk rescue unit and several USAR units (a Readiness Command unit and a Psyops unit) so “closed” is a relative term - though the USN is certainly gone, mostly (the Navy Lodge is still there and a great place to stay)…😉 |

The National Air and Space museum is nice, but contains far too much civilian junk I'm not interested in.
FARRRRRR and AWAYYYYY second fiddle to the USAF Museum.

My youngest son is a project engineer for WHiting-Turner Construction and has been working on the Google building on Moffett since the project started. It looks like tehy are getting ready to turn it over to them later this summer. |
