Rocket Supply Inc Quasar, any info?
I bid on an auction that listed a bonus “Quasar” without any pics, and it turned out to be a kit by Rocket Supply Inc. (according to G Harry Stine collection at NASM):Quasar NASM
I can find nothing more about this rocket or company. I can’t even tell if it is cluster or staged either without opening it. Does anyone have info on this rocket or company? Last edited by 5x7 : 05-05-2021 at 04:48 AM. |

Hi 5x7, The Quasar model rocket kit that you have found is a Space Age Industries model rocket kit. It was never shown in any of their catalogs under the Quasar name, but was shown as Pulsar in the Space Age Industries catalog. I used to have one of these, but, unfortunately, I don't have it anymore. http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/ca...eage/sai14.html Did you find this on eBay? Would you be interested in selling it or trading for it? If so, I would be interested in it. Please let me know. I believe that I may still have the plans for this kit. If so, I will scan and post them here. Thanks, Jeff Jenkins aka: Faithwalker NAR #46879 SR Last edited by Faithwalker : 05-04-2021 at 10:47 PM. Reason: add note about plans. |

Rocket Supply Co purchased AMROCS in Late 1969 or very early 1970. The Quasar was probably a Rocket Supply or Amrocs model rocket then when they folded their inventory was sold to SAI .SAI bought out AMROCS/Rocket Supply company which was started by Lindsay Audin.(Amrocs was started by Lindsay Audin.) Estes Industries supplied re-labeled model rocket engines to Rocket Supply Co.
EDIT Found the following in the June 1970 MRm Article on the Pittsburg Spring Convention article: "SAI announced the purchase of the entire Rocket Supply(AMROCS) line ... Perhaps the most interesting of their new models is the Quasar, a high-performance model employing a single core engine, and three strap-on pods, which are jettisoned at burnout" Edit 2 SAI Quasar was flown at MIT MR Convention April 1970. Turned in a perfect flight with all 3 strap-ons and center core firing.

Also in June 1970 issue of MRm, page 33, is the Space Age Industries line-up, showing the Quasar on the display table just to the left of the SAI three stage Omega III model rocket. The Space Age Industries purchase of Rocket Supply Company (AMROCS) is mentioned on page 34 of the same vol. 2, no. 9, June 1970 issue of Model Rocketry magazine. http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/Mo...02n09_06-70.pdf Kind regards, Jeff Jenkins aka: Faithwalker NAR #46879 SR |

The Rocketeers Collectors Journal calls Amrocs ‘an Obscure Model Rocket Company’ and they have a catalog they say is from 1965 that lists it as a ‘Division of Rocket supply Co.’ See attached. The 1965 catalog does not have the Quasar listed.

Lindsey Audin started AMROCS circa 1965 according to a GH Stine mention. He was the first prove to the Krushnic Effect; then discovered that a ducted rocket design would overcome the Krushnic Effect.
