Default BAR Fleet #132 - Quest Nike-K

Hi, All,
I just finished up this fun build of an OOP Quest Aerospace kit, the Nike-K (Kit 2002).
It was a fun, easy build which turned out fairly nice. Even though the kit is designed to be built and flown as is, I took the time to fill body tube and launch lug seams and paint the model. The fin can and transition were brush painted. Kit supplied decals are stick-on, and I also added a waterslide checkerboard band on the payload section, a black band above the fin can, and decals of the fleet number and my old NAR number.
Look forward to flying this attractive bird.

Model Type: Sport, Payloader
Quest Aerospace Kit No. 2002
Motor Type: 18mm x 70mm
Recovery: Parachute
Nose Type: 2.76 Caliber Tangent Ogive, Plastic
Fin Type: Trapezoidal, Plastic Fin Can
Number of Fins: 4
Length: 23.4 in. (59.8cm)
Diameter: 1.378 in. (35mm)
Weight empty: 2.45 oz. (69.6g)
Color scheme: Body Tubes-White
Fin Can & Transition – Orange
Nose – White
Multi-Color Trim & Markings
Completion date: April 13, 2021

That's very nice. That Nike-K kit must have came and went without me noticing it. The newest Quest paper catalog I have is 2010 and it's not in that one.

Great looking build!
I believe the Quest Nike K was based off the old MPC Nike Patriot.
I like your paint scheme better than the older MPC version.

Do all the plastic parts make it that heavy, 24.5 oz. ?

Thanks, JeffyJeep and Chris,
I did a little internet searching on the Nike-K kit. It seems that Quest released it in 1992. I couldn't find any info on what year it went OOP, but Ninfinger has a PDF scan of the Quest 2000 catalog, and the kit is still offered there.

Chris, that MPC version looks identical, even down to the corrugated tube transition section. It obviously came with the standard decal sheet that were part of nearly all MPC kits.

Tigerhawk,

Good catch !! I mis-typed the weight. Gotta move the decimal over one.... should be 2.45 oz. The correction has been made to the original post.
Oops.....

NAR numbers are never old.....your number is good for life. If you renew membership, you get the same number (I'm assuming when you said old you meant you were no longer a member....)

Great looking build! Extra time and attention to detail is noticeable!

Thanks, barone,

Yes, I have not been an NAR member since the early eighties. I still have my last membership card with an expiration date of 1985!

I'm thinking some day in the near future I just might re-up for old times' sake. In the meantime, I'm still affixing my NAR number to all of my model builds. Once 25180 - always 25180 !!

Pretty sure the fin can, nose cone and tubes are available at Quest Aerospace to create this rocket.

Not only is that your old NAR number, that's a pretty old number!
