Maybe a 3" diameter Long Red Max, otherwise I agree with GH.

But seriously, folks, Max Saturday was a huge success. I think I flew 19 Maxes on everything from 1/2A to G. The only motor designation I missed was an F. Weather was perfect, mid-80's, low humidity, full sun all day, light breezes. I even had a CATO! An Estes Mini Max on an A10 popped before it left the pad. Completely toasted the interior. The only structural integrity left is from the paint and decal. I flew my Mega Max on a G80-7. It was almost a small field flight and landed at the edge of our field without damage. I think the next flight for it will be this fall in the corn on an H for my Level 1. Don't be shy about suggestions for motor choices. The seven second delay was a bit long yesterday, but not terribly so. Could have gone with a 5. I can still do theme launches, but nothing quite like this one. Good thing. I was wiped out last night.

Back in the day I had a scratch built 4" dia Red Max with 3/16" ply fins that flew absolutely great on an EX two grain 38mm H-200 motor. For 29mm single use motors the H-195B with 1.2 second burn time and 230 N-s impulse is pretty dang close. Also there's an H-182R with a 1.2 second burn and total impulse of 218 N-s. I don't remember the delay I set, but it was probably 8 or 9ish seconds.

I think the 29mm Aerotech H128 (basic Baby H cert motor) with about a 6 second delay in the 29/180 case would be about perfect. It's only slightly bigger than a full G.
Back years ago I used to fly those (under the FAA Propellant limit for HPR) in my BACKYARD that bordered a large 500+ acre soybean farm I was allowed to recover in. Many sellers would sell one H or I motor via mail order without any cert if you claimed you were using for a cert flight. Also got a J350 that way. Needless to say I don't think any cert should be required for any hobby motor. I used to touch those off with an old Astron controller about 30' from my deck in the backyard on a home-brew flimsy pad too. Yeah, it worked fine. Glad you had a good DRM theme launch. Wish your cato had only been non-damaging hilarity.

When in doubt, WHACK the GAS and DITCH the brake !!! Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't ! Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY. ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC ! |

Best motor for a cert flight. If you can fly a G80, you should be able to fly a H128. I think they are only 170 n-sec.

Though not available any longer, the Vulcan H80 was a nice motor. H115 Smokey Sam was another good one. Did they do an H150 Smokey Sam also? My memory is fading a bit on the Vulcan motors.
Never had failure of any kind on a Vulcan motor! Earl
