Question Der Big Red Max Nosecone Question

I've seen the plans for the DBRM on JimZ's site, and the Estes website. Both site's instructions show the nosecone as a two piece injection molded version of the PNC-60AH. However as the rocket continued to be produced (1978-1982), I know that the more familiar verision of the PNC-60AH (the one piece blowmolded version) was available.

So, did the DBRM ever get released with the blowmolded NC? If so, can someone scan the plans showing the one piece nosecone?

Thanks!
Jim

I got my second Red Max about the same time the DBRM came out. It came with the one piece blow molded cone. I imagine the DBRM shipped the same way. Some folks with quick trigger fingers that bought DBRM's the first time they saw them might be able to confirm or refute my educated guess.

Not sure about this one.
My Patriot and DBRM both had the 2-piece cone.
I do know some later bagged Patriots had the one-piece cone like the Omega used, so I would imagine the later DBRM's did too.
NONE of the boxed Patriots ever had the 1-piece.

That 2-piece cone originated with the boxed Citation Patriot in '71. They used up stock in various bagged kits after that.

Hearing all that about the Citation Patriot (and the Omega) makes me wish that I had a few of the older two part PNC-60AH nosecones. I think that having one of those (and perhaps one of the Semroc BNC-60AH nosecones) could help me clear up a few suspicions I have about some of the rockets I see in older Estes catalogs (like the DRM/CP, and Omega in the 1978 catalog). I look at those images, and no matter how I mentally roll those rockets around in my mindsim, I cannot get the nosecones to match the shape I see when I look at the clones I've made with the blowmolded PNC-60AH.

That said, I have yet to see a set of Citation Patriot, Der Red Max, or Omega instructions that address having a two piece nosecone. I wonder if those exist or not. If they do, and you know where I can find one (scanned) I'd love to see them.

Thanks!
Jim

Are you then saying that your first Red Max came with the two piece nosecone?

Yes.

I purchased both the boxed Citation Red Max (KC-2) and Citation Patriot (KC-3) in 1972-1973.
Both kits had the black plastic two-piece nose cone.

Thanks for that info.

I've got a parallel thread running over on TRF, and just found out that the Omega also shipped out with the two-piece nosecone as late as 1974.

Any chance you've still got the instructions for the KC-2 and KC-3 laying around? (I'm also looking for scans of the K-52P w/two piece nosecone instructions if anyone has them).

All The Best!
Jim

Yes. My original DRM has the heavy two piece injection molded cone. My 2nd DRM was purchased around 78 or 79 and had the blow molded cone.

I've posted side beside photos of them here before. You can do a search if you like. I have to get back to work or I'd find it for you.

Whoops! Forgot about the Citation DRM. Thanks, Bob.
