Most of the government information on Scout is likely now stored with the National Archives. There are many locations and where the data ended up depends on where it started.

I have no idea where to start. I Googled around a bit and found something from Langley indicating that some of their Scout information went to Philadelphia. It also stated that all NASA Scout information went to Atlanta.

history.arc.nasa.gov/hist_pdfs/guides/nara/rg255_langley.pdf

One big problem is that the indexing is sparse at best. I many cases no one has gone through their boxes of stuff to even see what they have let alone index it. So visiting is probably the best way.

I visited the Fort Worth location many years ago along with a few other local enthusiasts. The staff was very happy to see us as they mostly saw people interested in genealogy. I came away with some copies of drawings from the Mercury program.

Scout should be redeployed.

Perhaps with updated U.S. Rockets CF case solid motors which have higher ISP, density impulse, and loading .

Scout rocks! U.S. Rockets Scout if range approved would be rockin'.

A thought: If one offered to do--or help with--the indexing (after showing knowledge of and interest in the subject), they might be agreeable to covering one's copying costs in exchange. When I was the volunteer range historian at Poker Flat some years ago, they offered me such a deal, which I gladly accepted.

If you can make them, I know a Scout fan who I think also knows other scientists who would like to use the vehicle again. Dr. Gregory Matloff ( www.gregmatloff.com , a physicist and solar sail analyst--he's involved in the new Starshot Alpha Centauri probe project [see: https://www.google.com/#q=StarShot+project ]) is a big fan of Scout and Blue Scout for lofting small, inexpensive satellites and deep-space suborbital probes (a Blue Scout Junior once boosted one more than halfway to the Moon [the payload failed, unfortunately], and altitudes of millions of miles are possible with suborbital probe shots). We've discussed a possible Scout and Blue Scout revival using 3D printing and CNC production techniques.

Thank you--I greatly enjoyed it! Their documents, reports, and drawings were all mixed up (like the contents of Fibber McGee's closet), and they were glad to get them sorted and collated. I got to watch several sounding rocket launches there as well (it was kind of "spoiling," though, when the *first* one was a Black Brant XII!). :-)

Update . . .

I have been doing a lot of digging and have filed numerous FOIA requests. Things are looking promising, but the hard part is waiting for the replies, which can often be slow in coming !

Good! Having dealt with the U.S. Patent Office (when seeking to purchase a copy of the patent for the Respess "suspension bridge framework" rigid airship), I can relate to the long back-and-forth correspondence.
