Default Saturday in the paint booth

A bunch of new/old/forgotten/SPEV projects:

R to L: Semroc Lil Hercules - a single digit production kit from one of my early Semroc orders. Never liked the way it turned out and it never flew. Pulled it out the other night and prepped it for a catalog finish.

Semroc Sprite - A relatively new project in primer waiting for a white coat. Not 100% sure of the color scheme just yet.

Estes Pulsar - Another "Well, I've got this decal" clone. Not only did I have the decal, I had all the other parts. Nose cone is from the Estes Renegade two-stage that was dangerous.

Estes Mini Shuttle - Painted, now just needs detail painting and decals.

Custom Matra - Testors Italian Red is finished. White transition section currently drying. The purple nose cone under it is for the next build. (The Estes Super Vega corpse is the original "destroyed in the garage" kit from 1994. It might be able to be reclaimed.)

The Space Plowboy is my latest SPEV creation. I found a set of fins from a long forgotten project, possibly a 2001-ish Estes Rogue upscale, but I can't swear to it. The nose cone was one I bought for an FSI Viking upscale from Semroc, but didn't use. The BT-60 body tube had an out of round end, which the motor mount cleared up. I wanted something that would mimic the B6-4 flying capabilities of the Estes Super Alpha at B6-4 Field, and this fits the bill nicely. Paint was inspired by an old "Fly Your School Colors" thread, which is also what inspired the name, which was a play on a Steve Miller tune

Also in the booth, but not shown because I still can't get over how fugly that exposed motor hook is, is an Estes Hi Flier from 2001-02ish. It just looks lazy. No way to not see it.

I really like this one, Bill. The color combo gives it some zing. Well done!

It was built for function rather than looks, but I like the way it came out. I'm really looking forward to seeing it fly, and tomorrow looks pretty good, if not hot. The paint actually does look pretty good outside. It's Testor's PURPLE-LICIOUS and flourescent yellow. Not a big fan or purple, but this stuff is the best Testor's paint I've worked with in regard to consistency and coverage.

Its shape and size evokes thoughts of a Custom Model Rocket design - perhaps something along the lines of the Raven. I'd say the looks are fine; ought to be a great flier.

Saturday in the paint booth
I think it was the forth of July
People talking, people laughing
Man selling reloads
Singing rocket songs
A dipingere il mio missile
Can you paint it, Yes I can
And I've been waiting such a long time
For Saturday
