Problem is, I don't have a car, and between home and school is a really long bike ride (20-22 miles depending on route) or a long bus ride (1-2+ hours depending on time of day/day of week). Harbor Freight is in the opposite direction (about another 7 miles). I'm 5 blocks from Napa, 3/4 miles to Home Depot.

Thanks for all your help on this project. I know I'm not finished yet w/olde timey rocketry (see my signature below).

All The Best!

Lightbulb Fairing ideas...

If I had my druthers, I'd get a Cineroc camera of my own, but that's not an option at the moment (thanks to the lack of availability on Ebay).

So, now I have to figure out how to make the fairing. I'm thinking if I could get a female mold of the original, I may be able to cast a male part, then experiment with perhaps a hot press mold of sheet styrene. Then there's always the option of carved balsa covered with sheet styrene, or IMHO the best option, creating a vacuform fairing in styrene.

If I can do it well enough, perhaps I could help others with adding their fairings.

I'm thinking that one idea would be to cut a rectangular slot in the correct location of the camera's main body tube, then attaching the fairing from inside (with a section that fills the extra slot area).

Another idea I've got is to try to find one of those new plastic water bottles and see if it's the correct diameter (1.8" ID/1.84" OD) to replace the cardboard simulated camera bodytube. The advantage of this idea... If I snafu, it's cheap and quick to replace. It should take Krylon or Rustoleum's Paint for plastic well, no spirals, and it will allow me to see inside of the body while I'm figuring out how to mount the camera. I do plan on using a mirror, rather than shoving the camera out the tube and making an oversize fairing.

Detailed photos of an actual Cineroc's fairing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

Question Omega decal questions... Blue or Purple?

For any of you who made the original, was the fin decals a dark sky blue color, or a purple violet? The catalog sure looks blue, but I've been told (2nd hand info) that it was more purple than blue.

Estes Catalog 1974 pg49

Also, if you got a Cat. No. 701-RC-8 or the later RC-8 combination offer, did it include this decal? (I though about using it, since I'm trying to replicate the catalog's rocket, not a stock, but it wasn't accurate based on further photo analysis and the color didn't match the fin decals I had).

Oh, and I got the rocket today... Mix up in the office
Thanks
Jim

I will check my original Omega fin decals but I sure remember them as light blue, NOT purple.

I actually had one "unnamed" customer get quite irate and insisted that I replace his blue Omega decals with a set that were more towards purple.

I never owned an Omega so I just don't know.

Actually, I believe the decals provided by Estes may have varied in color.

Sandman most likely is correct.
Have seen decal color vary over the lifespan of a kit.
For example, the early Cherokee-D kits I had featured a much brighter red on the decal set than the later ones at the end of it's life in the Estes catalog.

I have always wondered about the purple Estes scissor wing transport in the 1974 catalog. I own two (including one that says "new" on the package) and they are both red.

... and after review the Omega is purple too

but blue here in the same catalog!

That Omega looks blue to me in both catalog pics. Purple is the color of the WIZARD fin-can.

Don't worry Sandman,

I'm not sending my Cherokee-D decals back. They look GREAT!

Woah! Your Right!

It is purple in the 1974 catalog for the K-52p, but blue for the RC-8... Below is a screen grab of both that then were spliced together.

1974 catalog shots of the Omega and Cineroc.

Awwww Nuts, now I want to build the K-52P too. Sandman's purple decals are really quite nice... BUT it doesn't need the Logo/Cineroc/Omega decal to be accurate, as they didn't get shipped with the K-52P.

My wallet keeps getting thinner and thinner...
