The one in Goodyear, Arizona VULCANIZES their fries.
They last longer/get better mileage that way.

For a fast food burger Best: Dairy Queen Brazier Worst: Hardees

When I was growing up our choices were Red Barn and Burger Chef. I recall both being pretty good.

Red Barn was petering out about the time we were occasionally going out for McDonald's/Burger Chef. I was always curious about what it was like, but it was all the way over in Cincinnati, in an area that wasn't great then. Burger Chef always seemed like a step down from McDonald's, which is saying something. All of our local Burger Chef's were bought up in the mid-80's and became Shelby's, which I never bothered with. We never had a local Burger King when I was a kid, and it was the early 80's before I had a chance to try it. Back then McDonald's and Burger King were both pretty good. I remember the first Whopper I had being massive.

My first job at age 16 was at Red Barn. Good burgers, chicken, and fries. I made sure the free meal I got was cooked to perfection, but we did a good job, overall. I didn’t eat the coleslaw when I realized the guy making it used his hands to stir — and they always looked so much cleaner after he was done.
I did ask our manager to get on his case about washing his hands. And ... cleaning under his fingernails.

I made the cole slae at Long John Silver's when I worked there. It just now occurred to me that I have no idea what level of cleanliness my hands were at at any given moment during my time of employment there. It long ago occurred to me that it was one of the more disgusting restaurants I was ever in.

I always liked Burger Chef and was sad to see them bought out by Hardee's/Carl's Jr.
Hardee's around here has ALWAYS been much better than Burger King or McDonald's.
McDonald's is the absolute WORST. Doesn't even remotely taste like a burger at all.

Yes, I've often heard and read complaints about Carl Jr's, but as noted that hasn't been my experience at all. There are three Carl Jr's in the place in Colorado where my sister lives - she's warned me not to go to one as it is badly run - but the other two are good. Interesting because the same people run all three.
It all comes down to that consistency thing. I don't particularly care for McDonald's (aside from their Egg McMuffin), but they've got that consistency thing down pat. Never had a bad meal at McDonald's, I just haven't ever had a particularly good one either.

For me, I find Shake Shack burgers better than in and out and all of the other chains I've tried.

Yes, I get that. I wouldn't call myself a McD's fan, but during cornfield season there is a McD's right off the highway that I'll stop in for a 1/4 Pounder and iced tea after leaving the field. They consistently (that word again) serve the sandwich piping hot, the onions are always fresh, and everything about it after tromping around in a cold cornfield and facing a 90 minute drive home, just works for me.
