Default Diode Identification Help

I need some help. I'm familiar with how diodes work and how they can be used. However, I'm not very familiar with identification when some of the writing is worn off. The diode is on the electric PTO engagement of my tractor. Nobody carries it locally and I've only found it in one place online, at an outrageous price. I peeled the waterpoofing rubber off of it and found what looks to me like a single rectifier diode. Unfortunately most of the numbers are worn off the barrel.

I can see "007S" near the cathode band and below that I see "CD" and a gap, then "122". It's about 3/16" long and a hair under 3/32" in diameter.

If it was me, I would replace it with a 10amp diode like https://www.amazon.com/MCIGICM-Rect...ps%2C196&sr=8-3 .

In the reviews I see many people use them on their tractors.

From the shape of the potting, it looks like the insides of an R53 Series relay or something made to fit in an R53 socket. EDIT: actually, although it's the right shape, it's smaller than an R53.

I don't know the circuit, so I don't know if the voltage drop of the diode is relevant, but I doubt it. These would probably work and are from, in my experience, a reliable seller:

(Pack of 50 Pieces) Chanzon 1N5408 Rectifier Diode 3A 1000V DO-201AD (DO-27) Axial 5408 IN5408 3 Amp 1000 Volt Electronic Silicon Diodes

The thick rubber coating is to help keep it from overheating in the harsh environment.
It doesn't work well.
I had a Bolens tractor with the same type of PTO engagement.
Once you started mowing if you shut it down, the PTO would not re-engage until the diode cooled completely.
Fixed it by routing the diode waaaay away from the hot environment by the engine.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.

Being the cheap bastage I am, I took a 5A diode off of an old computer power supply. Based on the 3A to 10A range you guys recommended, I feel good about it. I soldered it on late last night and fired up the tractor. The pto engaged and worked like a charm. I will build a paper dam around it and fill/seal it with hot glue this morning because that's what I have on hand. I will be bush hogging the back 40 this afternoon to give it a full test.

GH, the diode is in the dash with a firewall between it and the engine compartment so the heat will only come from the heat of the day and what little resistance the diode has at the soldering joints.

Great to hear.

Tbzep-
Sounds like your tractor has it located in a much better location than my Bolens did.
Mine had it in the ENGINE compartment, just waiting to fail from radiated heat.
Whomever thought it was a good idea to be near the engine in my tractor was a total MORON.
I can't think of a worse location. Actually I would prefer MECHANICAL actuation of the PTO. No electronics at all to fail then. My brother's Simplicity Sovereign from the mid 90's is at least 10 years newer and still has mechanical PTO actuation.

I agree that adding complexity is usually a bad thing, but you sit atop larger tractors instead of straddling where you can reach the mechanical PTO like my old 8N Ford. This is on a 50 hp utility tractor that I use to feed hay and bush hog tighter areas. Most modern utility size and pretty much all the larger ag tractors remotely actuate.
