24 mm Fat Boy
Alterations to the stock kit:
24 mm motor mount No engine block, homemade engine hook does not penetrate motor mount, so I can use D or E engines with no adapter (engine hook epoxied to outside of motor mount) Foamcore centering rings 1/4" launch lug (I plan to add rail guides for maximum flexibility) Kevlar + 1/4" elastic shock cord with swivel for swapping out chute Nomex chute protector 18" nylon chute I wanted something in the spirit of the stock decals, but original. I found a font named "Fatboy" printed the name on paper, traced it on Monokote, and cut it out. I flew it yesterday at Bong. First flight on a D12-5. Very nice. Second flight on an E9-6. Man, that thing just kept going! Long walk to recover. No damage on either flight, but on the first flight, gravel scuffed paint off the trailing edges of the fins on landing. think you're going to need a tracker if you want to find it at bong (tall weeds).

Yeah, after the long hike through the weeds to recover it Saturday, I think I'll be mostly flying it on D motors. No sweat, though, because this was mostly practice for rebuilding my Big Daddy for D and E motors. |
