Default 2fer built thread

This post is behind the times. It is not for a build in progress, it is for a completed project.

Actually, 2 projects.

A little history (note - skip 2 paragraphs if you want) - I am a design engineer and I design and build test equipment that is used to test our company's products. These test stands either are blue or even more exciting, grey. I often joke at work we should make a stand that is hot, neon pink with metallic green trim. My manager has yet to agree don't know why.

On one project, while testing/troubleshooting the product there is 115V exposed. That of course brought in the safety group. We had to add guards, warning lights, and warning labels. I agree safety is important, but only trained technicians would be working on the stand. My main complaint was we could only fit a warning label that was 3" X 5" and they were complaining it was too small! The unit is only 8" X 15" so the label was almost a quater of the front plate. I also suggested the label would stand out more if it was, yep - you guessed it, hot pink with metallic green lettering.

So I went home and decided to have some fun.

First I was just going to grab an Alpha and do a quick build and paint job, but I try to avoid 3FNC rockets.

So the first thing I did, was to build a 3FNC rocket. Actually, 2 of them. Then there are other multiple rockets? Nope - pieces. The 3rd pix shows how the pieces became a Laser Pod

For one rocket, I cut a a BT60 at an angle ala Pemperton's Kraken. I used this as a scoop. I had another piece that I decided to use as a pod ala the Shrox Icarus.

I cut a section of BT5 to add to the scoop.

I prepainted the main body tube, masking where I would need to glue.

The fins for one are shown below

The other rocket had simple angular fins. And booster pods.

As a preview - one rocket is going to be decorated with warning labels

Started assembling the rockets and laying out the parts next to each other.
My little 3FNC rockets became the wingtip missles

I bought some Avery label paper. I wanted to try papering my fins for the first time. They did not come out to bad, a few air bubbles.

When I went to paint my metallic green, the stuff came out like water. It ran everywhere and got under the masking tape. I thought the rocket was ruined.

I then had an idea. I took a sheet of the Avery paper and painted it all pink. I then cut out panels to cover what had been messed up. If you look at the finished pictures, you can see a slight color difference.

To further enhance this rocket, I glue sequenes onto the rocket! I call it B'Jwled (be jeweled).

The other rocket I covered with lots of warning labels. Some real, some made up.

Below are the final shots and launch pix from NYPower
