Question on Saturn V wraps
Just getting started on the wraps on the Estes Saturn V 1969.
Question is on cutting them off the sheet. I understand the side to side trim close on one side and leave some on other side to trim to fit around tube. But top and bottom trim. Cut right up to corrugation or do you leave some on for gluing. If you leave some on where do you position on the reference line you draw at the corrugation on at the end of plastic. Thanks |

On a couple of the wraps the instructions give dimensions. For example for the 1st stage wrap it shows 3" from top to bottom. On the interstage wrap it shows 1/16" edge for gluing.
The pics do not show a cut right up to the corrugations. I would leave a thin edge for gluing. How much? Your call. Myself, when I built the 2157 Sat V I just eyeballed it. Maybe a 1/16" edge. This isn't for scale competition, right? So who's gonna notice if you're off a mm or two? BTW you do know about the error in the production and alignment of one of the wraps right?

Yes I heard something about the wrap error.
Not sure which wrap it was or how to correct it. Thanks for the help y'all. |

Here is a detailed explanation of the "problem" and the solution:
http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot...rn-v-inter.html http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot...v-inter_22.html Realistically, if you don't split the wrap and reposition it, 99.9% of people would not know that it is "incorrect". They'll just see a nicely built rocket. (Although you might be irritated if the tunnels don't line up). Cheers.
