Comrades:
For the record, Duende is Spanish for Imp, Goblin or Hobgoblin. Also for the record, I can't think of any place I've ever launched that would be big enough for a Goblin on an E. It is cool, though.

Baby Diablo? In Spanish: Diablito
Not exactly baby devil, it translates more like a small spirit of a house, more "Imp" than "Goblin." Dueno de la Casa (owner of the house) shortened to Duende is what the Internet says is the word origin and that's about right; Duende is what all of the unexplainable stuff that happens in an older house gets blamed on. For a fabulous short story, read The Bottle Imp by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was one of my favorite stories from my youth.

It lost a fair amount of altitude due to windcocking, but 1500' seems like a possibility. We saw the puff of smoke and someone noticed that there had been a separation. I was really looking forward to seeing that big streamer come down, but never saw it until it was in the dirt.

Bill and Lee,
That's a great flip-flop paint job! Bob p.s. I'd be mortified to launch a Goblin on a D-12 much less an E

Some new flyers here in Colorado have been going crazy with Goblins. Drag races, redoing fins with plywood, thru-wall replacements. (Toby Vanderbeek / Vanderburn Rocketry has them now if anyone is so inclined. ) Also flying them on F motors. One guy did his in reverse colors, but had no decals, so I printed him some in yellow. So, I only stumbled on the idea for reversed colors which led to reversed-color decals I feel somewhat embarrassed admitting that I have never built a Goblin. But mine is getting built. It’s a bit modified. I have a few Goblin nose cones (Estes sold a 4 or 5 pack a few years ago on clearance.) After doing a set of decals for BT60 tube size, and having a BNC-55AO Goblin cone, some design changes were in order. Two tubes sizes, BT60 and BT55) are used, a balsa transition, the 55 nose cone, and one more mod. It had to have a different motor configuration. I have added the 18mm dual, canted motor mount used in the Fliskit Dueces Wild. (I bought a few of these, and the Tres-type 3-motor model, in various sizes from Fliskits during the “Going Out of Business Sale”. Sadly, it looks like these are no longer sold separately.) I will post pictures once I am a little further along.

One of the few models I managed to have from my first rocketry period (~1968-1974) was a Goblin that was built and had the fins and nose cone filled but was unpainted (well, un-doped since that's what I was using then). It finally got painted and flown after I retuned to the hobby in 2009. I've also built one of the Semroc Retro-Repros and one of the Estes reissues (with the plastic nose cone). This latter was a proof-of-instructions build alongside an Estes SLV.
I don't fly them often as they always seem to pop a fin on landing, even on a soft field. Something about the mass of that 24mm motor case and a streamer (even the looooooooong one of the original) I guess.
