Default New Design: Sub-Assembly Examples

Here are a couple of sub-assemblies I put together a while back. I developed these while working on a BT-70 based cluster design.

They are FlisKits Engine Mounts:

- EMK3-24-70
- EMK3-24-70R

Let me know what you think of these and if there is interest in similar sub-assemblies. I would think the rocketry vendors would be interested in having there parts and components available for use within Rocksim.

P.S. I had to rename the .RSA files to text files to upload to post. Just remove .TXT extension and add to your Rocksim \Data directory.

Default New Design -- Sort Of...

Folks,

Here's a good reason to use RockSim when designing your models. I just got my RS8 back up, and worked out the basic plan for "Shooting Star".

Check out the attached screenshot. Note the Dv numbers...

The good news is, it reaches safe flight V on a 36" standard rod.

More work to be done before this sketch is flight ready...

OK, the suggested minimum in RockSim is 44 FPS, and the trip value is 43.999 FPS. I knew it was 40-something...

Exclamation New Design (Official) -- Shooting Star

OK, I'm going to make this an official design with this post. I've tweaked the design as far as I think it will go, mostly in the way the two forward rings are represented. They are now simply "inside tubes" instead of "ringtail fins". This brings the margin up to a more respectable number, and is likely closer to the 'real world' build performance.

Length: 22.70"
Diameter: 0.908" (ST-8); 1.556" (PPB)
Fin Span: 3.94" (BT-101)
Weight: 1.38 oz

B6-2......150'......Dv 7 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod (Flight V at 27")
B4-2......155'......Dv 8 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod (Flight V at 23")

The 3D image shows an approximated location for the dowel supports for the rear ring.

Here it is John . I called it the Crazy Bee and it is just an small 13mm design that I put
together with some scrap parts. I had to rework the file quite a bit because Rocksim is still
quite inaccurate when it calculates drag for both Tube fins and Ring fins. I am glad that the
test flight went well for you and Conner. We'll turn Conner into an Mad Rocket Scientist/Designer yet .

This design does have some custom parts to it unfortunately. I designed it before I began to design rockets from off the shelf parts . You will have to cut the (2) 1/2 inch long rings fins from the ST-1620.

PS. John, I will try to work on an upscale soon, JP.

I notice this one isn't in the list. Was Crazy Bee II ever posted in one of the BARCLONE "Scrounged" threads? Can I add it to the growing list?

Please Do Carig. I just did some looking and realized I had never posyed it . Must be that Dain Bramage again!

Also just found and upscale 18mm for John that I called the Crazy Train. I will have to rework the file as "Rocksim is still quite inaccurate when it calculates drag for both Tube fins and Ring fins". Sure wish TVM would fix this!!!

Default Final Design: Falcon Rocket Racer

Here is the final version of my Falcon Rocket Racer model based on aircraft of the Rocket Racing League. I added cockpit windshield and canopy, tweaked the stability and performance numbers, and added some graphics to improve visual presentation of design.

P.S. Please note, textures on Main Body Tube and V-Tail fins should have "Rotate around R-Axis" selected. Rocksim does not seem to be saving this setting in design file correctly. Attached images are correct.
