Default STUDY SUMMARY: Shuttle Derived Heavy Lift Launch Vehicle

Here's the presentation that the "Sidemount" HLV folks from JSC gave to the Augustine Committee hearings shortly before the cancellation of the Constellation Program (and Ares I and V and Orion along with it, along with any return to the Moon) designed to fulfill Bush's "Moon, Mars, and Beyond" plans, back in 2009.

It's basically a modification of the old "Shuttle C" unmanned cargo launcher plans that go back to even before the first shuttle flight, in various proposals. The first few pictures show the "evolution of the Shuttle HLV concept over a few decades".

The study goes on to detail the design reference mission, and the flight timelines and events, payload capabilities and upgrade potentials...

Here's a summary of the study's high points.

Enjoy! OL JR
