My guess is that John is building a larger more detailed GT for a specific purpose. That doesn't mean some form of the old K-21 won't ever show back up. 
In the mean time, scratch build one. Back in the more recent golden era of SEMROC, there was about a two year stretch where darn near every scratch build my son and I did of an OOP kit, Carl released a kit for it! Take one for the team and maybe the new Estes will do the same!
