I almost mentioned that last night when I first looked at it. That rocket is begging for a paint job to make things look more realistic. |

This is neat, James! And using that 1/2A3-2T looks like the really optimal motor, since this is more of an "attention grabber" than an altitude bird. Having it only reach 90' or so is ideal, as beyond that range you loose the overall effect. This is a design that would be ideal for school demo flights, especially if you're flying for elementary schools.

I just noticed the description as a "chubby little guy". That's funny considering the meaning of the slang term, "chubby".
Hey, I think I'll add that to the bad rocket name list over on TRF. |

New Plan -- Hawk II
This is an upscale of the 2-stage 13mm Hawk from 2003 or 04. The payload body is ST-10 while the sustainer and booster are ST-8. I did not change the fin sizes from the earlier Hawk, other than the thickness. These are 3/32" thick.
Performance is excellent, and really shows the need for someone to get us some B6-0 motors back in production! Length: 25.825" Diameter: 1.04" (ST-10) Fin Span: 4.66" Weight: 1.74 oz B6-0 / A8-5.......710'.......1 FPS B6-0 / B6-6......1020'.......9 FPS C6-0 / A8-5......1160'......24 FPS C6-0 / B6-6......1435'.......9 FPS B6-0 / C6-7......1620'......21 FPS C6-0 / C6-7......1990'......18 FPS A 48" rod, 3/16" diameter, is recommended. Enjoy! Addendum: This design requires a new component from Carl at SEMROC -- A new transition for ST-8 to ST-10, 1" in the midbody length. I call it a BR-810L. The current BR-810 is only 0.5" in the midbody length.

Glad to see you folks like the Spaceman 2006 design. I hope someone will built and fly this one soon. I would really like to see this "Chubby Little Guy" drift down on on parachute. That might be too cool. I have another version for the gals called Spacewoman 2006 and still another called Journeyman 1 (just a little ocupational pun there). They are not quite ready to post yet. Lately at work the Sup's have issued all carpenters floresent orange T shirts with floresent yellow striped for saftey sake. I feel like a 6' orange traffic cone.
I still would like to hear comments on the couple NC, especially if it will work or if it can be done in a better way??? PS. As far as the third leg goes, I guess it may be possible to convet/ eliminate it and use the legs with one motor in each leg??? That sounds like a design that Craig might be able to do, because its beyond my rocksim ability. Thanks Agian, JP James Pierson NAR# 77907 |

I'd either fit and glue a cylinder of balsa inside that coupler, or just eliminate the coupler and glue the helmet cap to a BTC-5. You can then thread a screw eye into the BTC-5 for attaching the shock chord and the parachute, like any other rocket.
