This is probably the best Christmas present ever , EV. I am quite honored that you have built one of my designs. The photo's look great and sure hope to hear about some flight reports soon. Feel free to make any changes you think it needs, especially the name. I did a tricky motor pod layout. I use BT-5 4" long and in front of those used BT-3 2" Long just to break up the line of the motor pods. Look like you got a pretty good "Old Carpenter Eye" to me. Here is a close up thumbnail. Also main BT is BT-60 12" long. Here are the flight stats: *Launch guide length: 36.0000 In. *20 Semroc papachute used [B4-2] Maximum altitude: 167.55774 Ft. Minimum velocity for stable flight reached at: 32.7874 In. Velocity at deployment: 10.2654 ft/s [B6-2] Maximum altitude: 169.14501 Ft. Minimum velocity for stable flight reached at: 34.4641 In. Velocity at deployment: 12.5039 ft/s [C6-3] Maximum altitude: 358.25619 Ft. Minimum velocity for stable flight reached at: 32.2487 In. Velocity at deployment: 7.8026 ft/s EV, I notice that you had no engine mount yet so consider the following. [D12-3] with PNC 60-NA and CG at 5.5" from base with D12-3 loaded. Here is a design I have called the Saturn Z. It uses an 18mm motor mount and with a C6-7 will attain an altitude of over 1000 feet. The center exterior ST-5 pod tubes were simulated using the inside tube method and not the tube fin method. The forward end of these tubes are cover up by a CR. I chose not to use the tube fin method because there is no airflow passing thrrough these pods, only the exterior surface. Also the tube fin method allows for alot of drag which changes the simulation for the worse. Your INPUT on this simulation will be greatly appreciated, JP Enjoy and to ALL a Merry Christmas. Tau Plieades -- Take Two
Here's an example of where RockSim falls down on the job. The previous version of this plan used the RINGFIN settings for the two shrouds, and the model just barely reached 450' on a C6-3. Switching to the INSIDE TUBE settings, the altitudes doubled. Now the question becomes "Which setting is correct?"
Until I can build the prototype and actually fly it, I won't know for sure. Same holds true for the Andromeda, since I used the INSIDE TUBE setting for those shrouds. Here's the alternate specs for the Tau Plieades: B4-4.......584'......Dv 21 FPS B6-4.......588'......Dv 25 FPS C6-5......1164'......Dv 19 FPS Enjoy!

Since the PNC-60NA makes up for it in overall length, and I do like the look a bit better, I'm going to stay with it. Like I said before, the wing shape and overall look really reminds me of the Estes Wolverine, so I think a similar name is in order. My girlfriend is a huge X-Men fan, and after hearing a few other X-Men names, she came up with the perfect one as soon as I heard it. Wolverine's nemesis..... Sabertooth That sends my mind working down the path for decals already, as I'm planning on doing an eyes-and-mouth style decal at the nose like the old P-40 Warhawks in WWII. Later, EV |

Fin Pattern For Tau Pleiades
Four pieces, 3/32" thick; laminate with paper label stock and CA glue. There are no curved cuts on this one, so it's just using a simple #11 and steel ruler (if you're cutting by hand...). Assemble the pieces before cutting out the slot for the rear shroud. Fill up the slot after the model is built, using available scrap balsa.

Here in Washington in the Puget Sound area we had 6" of snow last night and lost power at about 1am. We just got it back at about 5pm this evening.
