The Mabel operator position does not pay very well considering the considerable qualifications...

Yeah, it seems that pretty much all the positions posted currently, with the exception of the Website Specialist position, are entry level positions with only a starting pay of $18.00 per hour. That translates to about $37,440 per year. That does seem a little low, considering they are asking for college degrees (either bachelors or associates), but the positions are full-time internships. In comparison, the Website Specialist position pays $55K - $60K per year. The Warehouse Handler Part time position is $15.00 per hour. The Engine Machine Operator position only requires a high school diploma, but it does require a fair amount of skill and ability.

Then again, it might would be a fun and a great opportunity to work for the, "Model Rocket Capital of the World," for the right person(s)!

Kind regards,
Jeff Jenkins

"An internship is a short-term work experience offered by companies and other organizations for people?usually students, but not always ?to get some entry-level exposure to a particular industry or field."

I'm confused by the postings. Why would anybody apply? A position at Apogee or Aerotech would have much more potential for advancement and cutting edge rocketry.

Ever been out there, and just drive around Penrose and other nearby towns? These jobs aren't so bad. The college degree requirement is a bit of cypher though...

Potential for advancement at Apogee? I think not. Mabel Operator at Estes with an advancement track along the lines of a "Black Powder Engineer" seems better. There are Estes Energetics and Goex to consider. There is potential there for someone willing to start out low with a glass half full.

Around my area any technical positions requiring a degree start at over $70K now.
I don't care if the cost of living is less there, I can't see anyone going to college to work for $37k.

Yeah, it's down the hill a piece.. "Black Powder Engineer"... you get that from running a machine that compacts powder? Hmm. Learn something here new all the time.

It's only about 30 miles from Pueblo (and half that from Canon City) - both places you can get a pretty nice house for less than $200k (I finally gave up and sold my old family house in Pueblo two years ago - very nice place on an oversized lot. Sold for just over $300k (and that's when the market was so hot that people were bidding over listing price). Same place around here would have been a $million, easy...

I really wanted to move back to Colorado to the old family house in Pueblo, but the wife vetoed the idea.
I toyed with the idea of contacting someone at Estes, getting them to offer me a 'part time' job that would have required I live locally there, then telling the wife we had to move because I'd gotten a job there . I wouldn't need them to pay me more than a pittance as I'd planned my retirement well and I'm financially very comfortable.
Never did it though, and too late now since I sold the house...
