I called Howard Kuhn to ask him about some of his models and ideas in the early 2000's and he was in his 80's by then and very hard of hearing such, that the few questions I asked him was relayed thru his wife. I know he was in his late 40's by the time he came to Model Rocketry. Not that late 40's is old; it's young to me now that I'm 65!

Does anybody know anything about his military career? I assume his military service was in the Army?

Thanks,

I found this, oddly enough, right here:

Here's his wife's obituary from 2009:

From poster Guy Noir over on That Other Forum:

"Col. Howard Kuhn, longtime NAR member and former owner of Competition Model Rockets (CMR) pass away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010."

Thanks for the info, Jay . . .

His wife's obituary indicates that he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, probably served in WWII and Korea . . . Perhaps Vietnam, too, since he was born in 1921.

Here's a photo from Col. Kuhn's internment at Arlington National Cemetery. In the photo, there are three NAR Presidents, one CAR Chairman, three former NAR National Contest Board chairman, four FAI World Champions and too many NAR National Champions to count. A fitting tribute to Howard's legacy in our hobby.

Mark-

I recognize and can name a fair number of these folks but certainly not all of them. Can you, at your convenience, do a “back row, front row” name listing of these individuals?

He has a head stone marker just like my dad has at Ft.Knox cemetery.
