Design Count Update
Folks,
I was looking through the old "Scrounged" thread from 2007 and came across no less than 10 designs from James Pierson that did not get counted in our Master List over on the Wordpress site. This means that we crossed the 500 mark quite some time sooner than we thought we did. The new current count, barring any late additions or "discoveries", is 543. I will continue to work through the old posts to find any more designs that might have fallen through the cracks. Just keep in mind, we still have six full days left in 2008, and we only need 57 more designs to cross 600!!! Can we do it?

Revised Design -- Nightwind
After Solomoriah's question about a possible loop-over from the off-center weight distribution, I looked at the possibility of adding some needed drag to the bottom-side of the model. What resulted was an improvement visually, and hopefully in the flight envelope as well. The model is also longer, which gives it an overstable condition even with a C6-5.
Length: 39.55" Diameter: 1.04" (ST-10) Fin Span: 13.81" Weight: 2.05 oz B4-4.......360'......Dv 5 FPS.......36" x 1/8" rod B6-4.......372'......Dv 5 FPS.......36" x 1/8" rod B6-4Q......435'......Dv 16 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod C6-5Q......930'......Dv 26 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod C6-5.......936'......Dv 26 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod The B6-4 is the optimum motor for this model. Enjoy!

Semroc Body Tube Data
Over the past few months using R8 I have added most all of the Semroc Classic Body tubes to my database. Attached is the Excel file which should be placed in the "DataImport" folder in Rocksim 9, which seems to be sadly missing most Semroc data files.
I want to thank Craig for helping me figure this out and if anything should go wrong with your computer I "absolve myself from all responsibility" and place it squarely on his shoulders . Now thats a Pal for ya . James Pierson NAR# 77907 |

The 'Real' Number 500...
I just went back and located the model which was incorrectly identified as number 490 in the master count, since we now know we had ten more than was credited.
The new #500 is... Swordfish 1, by James Pierson. Now understand, this could also change if additional designs are located which have not yet been credited to the list. But for now, this was the crossing point.

Cheese Grater
[QUOTE=CPMcGraw]To inaugurate this thread with the first new plan we have the Say Cheese, which as the name implies, is a Camera Ship. It has been trimmed to reach 800' consistently on a D12-5, and is intended to fly the Aiptek Mini Pen like TBZEP uses in his modified Stormcaster.
QUOTE] Nice looking bird ! I will be building another camera ship pretty soon. I had been using a scratchbuilt BT60 IRIS for my Oracle camera until about two weeks ago when my shock cord and the Kevlar separated at ejection. (yes, I know, glue those knots!) I built it with 24mm mount for D & E engines with 3/32 TTW ply fins. With the IRIS nosecone and "E" engines the CG was a bit aft, requiring ballast. The Oracle camera moved things up to about 1 calibre stability. I was getting about 800' ft with a D12-5, which was what I was using the day of the ill-fated launch. The video camera parachuted to safety, booster continued on a beautiful ballistic decent with the sun glinting off it's fins teminating with a sickening "pop" as it was eaten by a tree. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n_IiVa1UEk Again, glue those knots!

Pretty good video from that Oracle. Sorry to hear about the IRIS loss. At least the camera was recovered. Reminds me of a flight I put in with an Estes Sunbird about 20 years ago. Beautiful arc, followed by the immediate separation of the NC from the rubber band. I watched the sustainer do a beautiful death dive all the way to impact, then started walking in that direction to recover it. About halfway to the target, I was greeted by the NC on the streamer as it fluttered down in my face. Agreed, a drop of glue on the shock chord knots can work wonders.

More "Lost Souls" Found!
Well, it seems I done forgotted how to count...
I just located another batch of ten from the "Scrounged...2007" thread that did not get posted, and one that needs to be reworked using R9, for a total of eleven designs not counted. As was the case with the last batch, many of these belonged to JP. Three others belonged to me, one belongs to Fore Check, and one belongs to Manic BAR. Subtracting the one that needs revision, this gives us a new total standing at 552... The new "Magic Number" for reaching 600 is now 48... We still have 4 days in December, and I still have "Scrounged...2006" to look through. Can we make it to 600 before then???

Still More "Lost Souls" Found!
I just completed the pass through the "Scrounged...2006" thread, and located 11 more designs that for whatever reason was not included. As I think about these, some may have had excessively high Dv numbers, or other issues of stability that were not fully addressed at the time.
This now gives us 563... I also located 17 additional designs that need revision with R9. If these can get worked over, that would give us 580 plans in the Master List. Needless to say, I'll be busy for the next few days...
