I recall having a diamond pack of D12's dated sometime in 1973. Those were the first D12 motors I ever had and they were given to me by a friend around 1977.
I want to say also there was an article in an early 1977 issue of Model Rocketeer (NAR) magazine about the annual hobby show that year and it talked about the new motor packaging from Estes displayed at the show. I'll see if I can dig that issue out and verify. I recall some motor 'clearance' sales by Estes in the fall of 1981 on some mini motors and low and behold they came in the diamond packs. Seems like those were mainly the 1/4A stuff. Earl

Very true. You'd almost have to just consider anything after the latest date marked on a motor as a starting place, little else.

OK - wanna mess with your rocketry friends who have been old time BARS and know it all? Just print out these boxes (I suggest printing on semigloss presentation paper, then gluing that to a sheet of card stock for thickness), assemble them, put three of the appropriate kind of motor, along with igniters and instruction sheet inside, and then just casually lay them down at the next launch.
If these don't get a rise out of some of the old-timers, nothing will! Greg Edit: OK - I fixed the original file, and added a second one just for GH! Last edited by gpoehlein : 09-03-2011 at 10:46 AM. Reason: Replaced and added file |

Greg,
Your blue diamond box is great, but the one you included is for the small or mini engines 13mm in size (4 to a pack). The 18mm and 24mm engines came in diamond packs long enough for 3 engines. I say this because the writing on the one you include has 18mm engine designations, not 13mm. Do you have a diamond pack recreation for the larger engines? The 24mm size is larger than the 18mm size. I'd like to print some... Allen |

Oh, I have re-created the diamond pack too - but what I posted was a Centuri style motor box (square box) that never actually existed. It's a "what might have been" had Estes not gone to blister packs. That's why I suggested printing one, building it and leaving it where old timers could see it and say "what the h... Is that?" I'll see if I can't dig up an 18mm diamond pack layout and post it here. I never did the 24mm tube. Greg |

I know the answer since I have them in my collection. Yes, D12's came in the diamond box packaging.

WOW ! Thanks for the D12 diamond pack pic !
Never have seen one of those; now know they existed and must have been prior to ~1977 Love the box .pdf That would get a rise out of a few I'm sure, but whats with the lower box labeled both B6-4 and A8-3 ?
