Exclamation New Design -- Nightwind

One of the earlier sketches finally simulated.

Length: 27.05"
Diameter: 0.908" (ST-8)
Fin Span: 8.91"
Weight: 1.43 oz

A8-3.......216'......Dv 5 FPS.......36" x 1/8" rod
B6-6.......585'......Dv 28 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod
C6-7......1346'......Dv 8 FPS.......36" x 1/8" rod*

Enjoy!

*Note: I think this altitude figure is a bit optimistic. It's going to take building one and watching it fly before I'm convinced...

Addendum: This design has most of the weight off to one side (top) of the thrust line, so there needs to be some offset in the motor tube. I will try to figure out what the angle needs to be, and try to create some centering rings to build this in.

What's going to keep Nightwind from doing the St. Louis Arch maneuver? There's a lot of off-center weight there...

It will probably be a combination of additional fin area to the opposite side, and some thrust vectoring in the motor tube. It's not going to fly as intended the way it comes fresh out of RS.

That's the drawback to these asymetrical models. I am told, however, that RockSim Pro is capable of handling this type of calculation. I'm just not willing to spend $1000 for it.

Exclamation New Design -- Stardust

This one is supposed to be a Schoolyard Sounder, but the performance is a bit higher than anticipated. It has high Dv numbers, so use the streamer I'm calling out.

Length: 21.125"
Diameter: 1.04" (BC-760)
Fin Span: 4.26"
Weight: 1.07 oz

A10-0T / A3-4T..........868'......Dv 45 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod
A10-0T / 1/2 A3-4T......586'......Dv 25 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod

Enjoy!

Exclamation Revised Plan -- Rogue Star

Here's one from the beginning of the Designer's Studio thread. The original idea was for the small fins at the rear to be mounted on the pods, canted outward. RockSim 8 could not handle this, but 9 can. It still doesn't know how to render the French Curve scallop on the large body tube, sad to say.

R9 spotted a stability issue with this version that did not show up on the original. The revised plan should be OK.

Length: 23.30"
Diameter: 1.34" (ST-13)
Fin Span: 11.44"
Weight: 1.97 oz

B4-4......330'......Dv 14 FPS.......36" x 1/8" rod
B6-4......338'......Dv 8 FPS........36" x 1/8" rod
C6-5......772'......Dv 6-9 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod

Enjoy!
