Bigger nose cones
Quote:
Let me know what tube size you want to upscale it to, and I'd be happy to convert/enter the data into Carl's online nose cone designer. Cheers,

Sounds good, thanks. I'm looking at a BT-55 (1.73x) and a BT-70 (2.90) upscale.
As far as the decals go, the first upscale should have the Webelos logo instead of the Cub Scout. Keep the name of "Akela-1" since that's the name of the rocket to begin with. Colors are Olive Drab, Red, and Yellow. Webelos Logo Webelos Colors For the second upscale, the logo should be the Boy Scout logo, and the colors are Olive Drab and Khaki. Boy Scout Logo Quote:

I managed to pull off the BNC-55G 1.75X upscale (I doublechecked my own upscale spreadsheet) of the Semroc BC-730P : http://www.semroc.com/store/Scripts...NC-55G&OWN=0029 Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Nose Cone Designer to cooperate for the BT-70 2.92X upscale, which would probably be designated BNC-70G. Anyway, there you go. (For now.) Cheers,

Earl and all,
Just wanted to let you know that the Idaho-bound Akela-1 finally showed up on my desk at work today. Earl, thanks again so much for sharing these rocketry treasures of yours with those of us who remember them from "back in the day." As the kids (used to) say, "You the *man!*" Cheers,

Akela Leader's Guide
Well, I mentioned I'd scan this document and put it out here and just never got around to it (though I think links to another on-line copy do exist).
I call this the 'Akela Leader's Guide', but it's not the official name of it. This four page document (8 x 17 paper, printed two sided and folded over to form a four page 'booklet') was the 'master' guide that came with the Centuri Akela 8-pak sets which were distributed to respondents to this thread last month. The individual instruction sheets that each of you received (eight sets) were tucked away inside this folded 'guide' in the box of kits. This guide provided the group leader some general model rocketry overview information, construction tips, and directions on how to build a launch system to launch the Akela rockets. I thought the kit receipents in this thread would like to have the full compliment of info that came with the set. Later, I'll post some photos of the box itself. Earl

While I lost my copy long ago, I remember that guide well, Earl!
I still have a launch system much like the one shown, made from those parts but lacking the continuity check light.
