RIP George Gassaway
Just saw this from Ed:
To my NAR family of rocketeers, and the other friends of George Gassaway that have generously given to this fundraiser. It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing of George around May 21, 2023. George succumb to complications of his pancreatic cancer. Though George had a goal of attending the World Spacemodeling Championships in Austin, TX this July and then moving to Phoenix, AZ to live out his final days, sadly his cancer proved to swift. This fundraiser was established to help George deal with the medical expenses associated with his cancer and still will be despite his passing. Any remaining funds will be used to help settle his estate and deal with the inevitable legal expenses. I know this announcement leaves many questions unanswered. But there is still much I do not know. I will post additional updates as I learn more of the facts surrounding our friends death. Earl

I just saw Ed's posting on FB. Very sad indeed. That happened a lot faster than I and I'm sure he thought it would. :-(
The last time George was on YORF was 5/17/23.

It’s difficult to state the loss to our hobby. I didn’t know George very well but he was always willing to help. He taught me more about parachutes and streamers in 30 minutes than I ever thought I could know. He will be missed. God speed George. Thanks for everything.

Yes, very quick. And very sad. I thought a few days ago that it had been a good handful of days since George had posted anything and I was a bit worried about that. But, I figured it was probably just the demands of having to deal with various treatments and such. No such luck, apparently. Blue skies and gentle sun, George. I pray you are seeing sights now that we who are left behind can only imagine. Earl

Just wow! I was really looking forward to chatting with him a bit at the WSMC.
A great loss for all of us.

I just found this online. I never had the honor of meeting him, but his posts were always interesting. May he rest in peace.

I don’t believe that is the same George Gassaway. Does anyone have a link to his obituary? It may not yet be online; not sure. Earl

Just FYI my security software warns me off the obituary web page.

Sad, awful news.
I really wish there was a reliable pro-active test for pancreatic cancer. It isn't a particularly "bad" cancer, it is just rarely diagnosed until it is Stage 4 and hard to deal with.

Very sad indeed.
I was concerned by his lack of postings over the last few days as well. His contributions to this "hobby" are immeasurable. God speed, George. May you now enjoy permanent calm winds in the unlimited flying field.
