![]() The new Estes version flies nice!
Here's a recent flight of mine. It flew naked except for some white primer. Planning to paint this weekend! https://youtu.be/MwzrnXbo360

Semroc kits are my favorite. I have assembled parts to clone a Hydra 7, but I would have preferred the kit.

![]() Looks like the Estes Super OT gets decent altitude on just a C11-3.
Still think it should come with the longer "E" mount. Then again, I could put a REAL E in it with the Aerotech E15/E18 in the "D" length RMS 24 case.

Did you put the elevons even with each other, or does the glider just not respond well to elevators set to give a circular glide path? Just curious. It looked like it wanted to circle right, then decided to go left, then straight. It's a pretty heavy glider with very little elevon control.

Just under 200 feet on C11-3, just short of 400 on D12-5 are measured values with mine, built stock. Where the Estes on-the-box estimate came from, I have no idea. They are often optimistic, but usually not by a factor of over two. Still, on a D and "only" to 380 feet, the flight is quite satisfying and the glider is up for a good long while (sorry, I haven't timed it). Quote:
One of the jigs supplied in the kit helps set the elevons evenly. I just put a small tab made from clear tape on one elevon to induce a circle. Worked surprisingly well. The model IS a very nice flyer. Mine crashed on a C11 flight from a really wimpy ejection charge (didn't get the 'chute out, didn't release the glider, so both were damaged in the resulting sudden stop). But Estes replaced it and two packs of motors. I wish I could just get the decals, though, as I think I could otherwise repair my first one well enough for rather less work than building it again, as pleasurable a build as it was..

I use a E20-4 single-use for my Hawks Hobbies OT. I've not measured the altitude, but I'll estimate it's around 600-800 ft. Glider comes off nearly at apogee, and with a little clear tape tab on an elevon, I get nice wide circles around the mother ship as they come on down. It's bigger than the Estes version. An E30-4 works also, just a good bit faster off the rod. Very satisfying! Allen |

![]() I had TWO Hawk's Hobbies Super OT kits.
I sold one when "thinning the herd" and the other I cannot FIND....GRRR....I'm sure it's somewhere. That kit is BT-60 Booster/BT-55 Orbiter based, which is a nice size. I understand the eventual Semroc one is ST-20 Booster/ST-16 Orbiter based, which is the next size bigger, which is even better for allowing R/C gear in the Orbiter. If anyone has an extra Hawk's Hobbies kit available for sale, I'm interested. I should have bought "one each" of all the other Hawk's super-size and Q Modeling's upscales when they were available. Unfortunately I know Hawk's is never coming back, and after Q-Modeling announcing a "coming soon" comeback without it happening, I think we are more likely to see new production real Enerjet Athena kits.

![]() Managed to secure a Hawk's Hobby Super OT kit.
Many thanks to the provider. This one is big enough to be a worthwhile upscale. The Estes one, while larger than the original, is barely an upscale. They should have done it "Pro Series" sized with BT70 orbiter, BT80 Booster.
