Wanted - Semroc Omega kit
Looking to get another Semroc Omega kit - I've started building the one I have - intended to use it as a display rocket with a vintage Cineroc. But having started it, I realize it has some major improvements over the Estes original, so I'd like to get another one to actually fly.
There is one on ebay at the moment, but it's stupid expensive ($160) - for that price I'd rather clone one. |

Some of the prices on OOP Semroc kits have gotten downright IGNORANT.
You can get an original Estes Astron Omega for $160.

An Omega #26 is rumored to be available for a slightly less ignorant amount of money.

I'll make the obvious suggestion - clone the kit.
All the parts (except for the Cineroc, of course) are available from eRockets, including the decals. Not including a payload section/nose cone, parachute, launch lugs, glue... the parts come out to $53.26 for the booster and sustainer assemblies. Same parts as in the kit = just like building a kit.

Based on balsa prices lately, $53 seems reasonable.

As I said, if I can't get a Semroc kit at a decent price, I'll just clone it. I'm pretty sure the only parts I don't have on-hand are the 50-60 centering rings (I'm pretty sure I even have a set of Omega decals around here somewhere, although finding them may be a challenge). I've already got the Cineroc - I just need an Omega to display it on. I did a lot of stuff with Cineroc's back in early 1970s - I used to live in Pueblo, Colorado and I'd do stuff for Estes and they paid me with merchandise credit, so I had a lot of Estes stuff |

LOL, yeah, I don't think buying a single-digit numbered edition from the Knightdale era to build would be prudent, especially when the Dayton edition of Semroc still offers the decals, fins, and even the instructions a la carte. I'm not sure if they have the cone in stock but I'd bet you could ping Randy and scrounge one up. |
