New Design -- 0.56X Centuri Aero-Dart
Here's the second ST-10 downscale I dug up from 09 Sept 2006. This is a 0.56X version of Lee Piester's Aero-Dart design, again with really good performance at this scale. (IIRC, I e-mailed these to Carl McLawhorn 2.5 years ago, and he said, "I never would have thought of downscaling those two.")
I did these two downscales because I *really* liked the lines of the Hustler and the Aero-Dart, but thought that their original scales were just a little too big for my tastes. Add that to the fact that the Centuri ST-10 body tube has seemed like "just about the right size," in my original go-around as a rocketeer (as well as during my current sentence), and there you go. .

Carl, I'd consider this one as a kit, too! Jay, really good Dv numbers! That's what I wish all of mine could achieve. When the Dv is low like that, it takes so much additional stress off the components, especially the recovery system. These two are "fer sure" on my to-build pile!

There are a lot of Aero-Darts
There is the original Centuri version from IIRC 1963. IIRC it was 1.5" ID and had more squarish fins. Then you have what amounts to the Mini-Max version from about 1970, which has the strakes and the varying edge length trapezoid as published in this thread. Finally you have the Enerjet version from about 1972 with different tubes, fins, and nose cone. I am partial to the Mini-Max version AND SIZE. Jerry |

There were actually two early Aero-darts. One three-finned w/no payload compartment (1962), one with a payload compartment (1964). I've cloned both of these . . . as best I could from a few catalog photos! I'm partial to the familiar classic version. I can't say I'd buy a downscale, but only because I have so **** many kits to build! |

I always seem to forget about the 1962 version w/no payload compartment. I remember seeing the pics of your fleet of clones and they looked great. I've never cloned any of the early versions and my Semroc kit is still in the bag Nice job on the 0.56X Centuri Aero-Dart Jay ..... looks great! .

I would like to see the performance with these motors, of course with no thrust ring installed in the rocket. http://v-serv.com/usr/18mm.htm Particularly the E10 and F20. |

I finally released the correct nose cones:
BC-1338B 57% downscale of Centuri BC-225B (BC-22567) and BR-1013B 57% downscale of Centuri BR-175-225 for the Hustler un-SLS. BC-1038B 57% downscale of Centuri BC-157B (BC-17567) for the Aero-Dart un-SLS BC-731B 57% downscale of Centuri BC-125B (BC-12555) for the Scorpion un-SLS I built them up to see what they looked like. Smaller than I thought. They are in the same scale as the Sky Hook and Javelin before they were SLS-ed. I have the laser-cut fins if anyone needs them. I would post pics, but they look the same, only smaller.

That's the Enerjet 2250 nose cone. So you could make a downscale of the 2250 with that and whatever tube slides inside a BT-20. Jerry Last edited by Jerry Irvine : 04-10-2009 at 09:21 PM. |
