I think a lot of us are still flying from back then, but I've seen a lot of the kids who were fired up about rocketry move on in much the way we eventually did. The numbers may not be the same, but there will be another group of BARs in the future.

I think it's on-going.

My first rocketry life was 1977-1988. My boys dragged me back 5-6 years ago. They've moved on. I haven't.

Its ongoing, for sure.

On the Facebook rocketry groups, new postings show up all the time.

Typically its I just discovered this group! I flew rockets about 20 years ago in junior high. My son and I are building a rocket now. Pretty excited to fly with him!

Many say Ive rediscovered rockets! Whats the best glue to use these days?

Mine started in '61 or '62, then again in I think, '77, then again in, '95,....

I have tried many many different hobbies. Stick and tissue airplanes, then Jetex planes, then college (OK that's not a hobby), then, model trains, then RC planes (that one was a total waste!), then rockets again, then RC boats, then RC submarines (yep still have it), then back to trains, then real boats (wood), then restoring furniture, then back to rockets again.

I always come back to rockets. I have been BAR'd many times.

My family will have a ton of tools to get rid of after I'm gone.

My first go-round was concurrent with the moon race. I got an Estes starter kit in the mail in the fall of 1969, as I recall. But by ~73 I had moved on to other interests.

The release of "October Sky" on video in the fall of 99 spurred me into BAR-dom. I ran out of gas around 2010, and have been more into cars of late. No classic rods in my driveway, but I've gotten quite proficient at working on them. That probably has more to do with having kids driving than anything else.

I now have two grand buddies, ages 5 and 6, who are asking questions about the rockets I have. So taking them out for a launch is on the horizon. I expect I won't necessarily get to cranking out a new bird each week any time soon, but I can see me getting more active while helping Noah and Graham thru some scratch Marks and Alphas

When I was still active in Scouts, I always made the kids buy and build an Alpha. I showed them how to sand and attach the fins and several in each new group would get it right the first time and at least one or two would go on to build and fly more of them. It was fun.

For me, started at age 12 in 1968, lasted until @1971 when I started High School. A brief return in 1972 with a good buddy. Off to college, but returned @ 1978, mostly with the stuff I'd saved from rounds 1 & 2. That lasted until @ 1983 (job change, divorce), but back for sure in 1987. So I guess I'm a late 80's BAR? Which, by the way, was the first time I'd heard the term.
