Sheri's kits are more like scratch builds but the scale research has already been done and the carpet tubes have already been stolen from the back of the carpet store, and other raw materials are already gathered from the stacks of leftover stuff in your shop.

I would totally agree with tbzep's assessment.
If they were presented that way in the first place, I would not have such a low opinion. Her business practices however....

I thought the way she used T&A to promote her products was more than a little suspect. The prices and size of the products were what kept me from being interested, but I'd have been unlikely to ever buy from her just based on the tattoo and tobacco pics anyway.

I did my L2 cert with a Sheri's Saturn V - I couldn't have done that with the Apogee kit (although I did do my L1 with the Apogee Saturn V), and its a good two feet taller than either the Apogee or Sirius Saturns. My current Sheri's Saturn V flies regularly and is one of the most popular rockets I fly (J275W is my motor of choice). Quote:
I personally never had any issues - although I did hear a few sob stories of orders never received. After I'd bought the first Saturn V kit but before I started to build it, she improved it with more and better cast resin parts - and happily sold me the new parts at a very reasonable price. The story as I understand it was that her husband was the 'brains' and did most of the work of putting together the kits - she was just the pretty face. They reportedly sold out to Red Arrow when Sheri and her hubby went separate ways. Red Arrow was actually working to improve the kits - new molds, better quality parts - but then he apparently went bust as well. |

I always wondered just how much “Sheri” was actually involved in the business. Sounds like she - and her name - were just a marketing prop to sell rockets. What I have seen of the parts from the kits and such never really greatly impressed me in general, though I could see they certainly could be turned into something flyable. Earl

"Turned into something flyable" is NOT my idea of a "decent" kit.

No, me neither. By my comment, I was somewhat reflecting tbzep’s comments that the essential building blocks were there and a ‘competent’ modeler could make something workable out of it all, however with probably a little more effort than maybe they bargained for or wanted to put forth. But OVERALL, I was not really impressed by the kits. And though I like ‘cheesecake’ as much as the next guy, I don’t really like to think I’d be that swayed by that to buy a rocket (or anything else for that matter), nor would I want to use my wife (or significant other) in that manner. She looks like she was a willing partner from what I can tell, but not the way I’d want to use someone to sell merchandise. But, that’s just me and I’m not trying to preach against it. Earl

I have both the Sheri's Sat V and the LOC Sat V. Of the 2, LOC is the better kit. Sheri's has more detail parts (nozzles, tower, capsule, etc) but none of the detail is all that good. The resin parts have bubbles in them and the actual detail is "meh" LOC parts are much better and has a standard option for an av-bay but none of the detail parts and the LOC tower/capsule is horrible.
Sheri's was sold as 2x 29mm which is woefully under-powered because she/he were not HPR certified so the most they could do was 2x G80. She did give the option to swap to whatever MMT you wanted. I picked 54mm. The LOC comes standard 5x 54mm but I picked 1x 75 & 4x 38mm. I think 5x 54mm loaded up with 5x K250 motors would be a sight to see. |

Oh, yeah, a 5 x K250 cluster would be a hoot, no doubt! Wonder what kind of nose weight would be necessary to balance that thing out though? Five K250s is gonna weigh a chunk. But, properly balanced that would be one heck of a burn time! Earl
