Default Durian time !

Have you ever heard of a huge fruit called Durian ? One gourmet chef on TV described the aroma as a combo-plate of Pig-DUNG, Turpentine, and ROTTED onions, all garnished with a fermented GYM SOCK ! Singapore issues a $5000 fine for transporting them on any public transportation they stink so bad. Sounds like the makings for an awesome STINK-PRANK !

Grab a good one and wash it down with a few hefty HUFFS of JENKEM !

I tried durian only once--while on a job on the East coast of Taiwan in the late 90's. AFAIK the only edible portion are the internal pods and they were prepared into a chutney for our fish dinner. The smell is horrible. I can best describe the aroma as a mix of poo, Limburger cheese, sebaceous cyst discharge, and bloated corpse. It would gag a carp. People in Mumbai would say "Man! That's rank!"

If you were laying siege to a castle and used a trebuchet to launch a sack of durians over the wall, the castle's white flag would go up a few minutes later.

It doesn't even LOOK tasty. It looks like a dead hedgehog--but larger.

The taste? I'll try almost any food in the countries I visit, but I couldn't eat more than one small dollop of the durian chutney. It tasted like it smelled.

As in other Pacific countries, durians are banned on most public transportation in Taiwan.

I don't know if they can be obtained in the US or not. If they are, then probably not in their natural form, but made into relish, chutney, dried, or candy. Yes, candy. They sold durian candy at one of the train station in Taiwan.

They definitely ARE available in the U.S.; there are FARMS in Florida that raise them.
I know there is NO WAY they could ban you from having LEGAL foodstuffs on public transit in the U.S. also.
I have seen them here in Michigan at high-end gourmet supermarkets like Nino Salvaggio in Troy, Mi and Oliver T's in Grand Blanc, Mi.

Then it sounds like you're in luck.

Bon Appetit!

Merci Non!

They should use Durians for mandatory cell odorants in PRISONS.
Good for 'enhancing' Jenkem as well.

Most good Asian food stores around Seattle carry durian (all that I've seen were imported - I'm a bit surprised they raise them in Florida).
Yes, they smell bad, but to some extent the smell is exaggerated.
They are quite popular in Indonesia (where my wife is originally from). I've tried it- it wasn't horrible but I suspect its a bit of an acquired taste.
My wife occasionally buys one - I make her keep it in the garage (trust me, I make far worse smells than that out there - fiberglass resin being one).
I went to a party with my wife once (one of her Indonesian friends) where they made durian ice cream. I love ice cream, but after tasting it all I could think was what a horrible thing to do to perfectly good ice cream.
