WAC Corporal
Title: WAC Corporal
Kit number: KD-1 Background Information brief: The WAC Corporal was the first US sounding rocket. Funded by the Army, project ORDCIT was selected to develop a sounding rocket based on the Corporal. Frank Malina, the director of ORDCIT, along with other Caltech engineers, developed the “little sister” to the Corporal. This could be the origin of the WAC (Women’s Army Corps) in the name. The other suggested possibility is Without Any Control, since it was unguided. Used as the upper stage of a V-2, the Bumper WAC was the fist two-stage liquid fueled rocket and set speed and altitude records. The Aerobee series was born out of the WAC Corporal program. 12/17/2011 Announced in SAM forum: https://oldrocketforum.com/showpost...297&postcount=1 Text of release announcement: Semroc has released four new kits for the winter build season. The Deci-Scale™ Aerobee 300™ is a 1/10 scale of the popular sounding rocket designed by Aerojet General, also called the "Spaerobee". Adding a Sparrow upper stage to the Aerobee-Hi (Aerobee 150), altitude and speed records were broken. This model is the starting point for your recreation of any of the several launches of this popular design. It is a sport scale so it does not have the booster that was normally used to launch the original. This model is 24mm engine ready for C1l's and D12's. It is almost 3 feet tall so it will be a great addition to your Deci-Scale™ family. It is also an upscale of the popular K- 17 Aerobee 300 produced by Estes in the early days. It is a sport scale so it does not have the booster that was normally used to launch the original. The Retro-Repro™ Cherokee-D™ is released by popular demand for an early Gene Street design. One of the first D powered designs, it launched a new generation in model rocketry. The popular Retro-Repro™ Ranger™ is based on a design by Vern Estes from 1962 of the first commercially available cluster kit. The design spawned many other versions over the years.
