Estes Generic E2X fin unit
Is the plastic fin unit on the Generic E2X the same one that we've seen on many beginner kits for decades?

No, it isn't.

There's also this, if you'd like photos of the fin cans:

Thank-you John. I didn't know also made a reference for fin cans.
There is new information that I could compile and send to you if you are motivated to update this reference. Let me know if you are interested.

No issues, Wolf, and hope it's helpful.
As a side note, every now and then I get an enquiry whether I plan to update the various lists. The answer is no. They were created in a time when parts designations and part numbers often weren't provided in Estes kit instructions, and so speculation would occur as to what part was in which old kit, etc. An issue for cloners wanting to build accurate models. But compiling those lists turned out to be a major undertaking, especially since I wouldn't add the info unless I had the kit, fin can or nose cone in my hand. That was a lot of kits! Happily, the New Estes has been doing a great job of providing parts info, both in instructions and on their website, so as a practical matter, updating those old lists would be duplicative. I feel they've served their purpose (and I suppose they still do, from time to time), and so long as Scott is happy to host them on YORS, then that's where they'll stay, as is.

His list of the kits that used PRP-1 is inaccurate so be careful if cloning (if you care). |

I saw that. It was accurate enough to answer my question. The "new" fin can had fins that had trailing edges that sat parallel to the ground. The "old" fin can had fins that were more like trapezoidal. That is, if anyone cares. -W
