RDC and the Ice Harvest
RDC and the Ice Harvest.
Growing up in New Hampshire, I had never heard of this camp until the early 2000's. That amazes me. This camp has been around since the late 1800's. My step children were invited to stay as guest for two weeks for two summers in a row. I was invited to stay but I declined. I could not take the time off of work. My loss. They have a yearly Ice Harvest for the Ice Chest at all the cabins. The ice is harvested in block's when it get's to be 12" thick and stored in a shed that is insulated with sawdust. Throughout the summer, blocks are delivered to all the ice chest at the guest locations on a daily basis by a wheel barrow. The blocks weigh about 125 lbs. each. They once replaced the ice chest with electric refrigerators, but were quickly replaced with the ice chest because of the complaints of the guest. That's what makes this place so quaint. Each winter, the public is invited to watch the ice harvest on Squam Lake. Not this year. You know why. There are other ice harvest throughout my state for different reasons but this is the coolest. A flash light is required and you still have to dress office casual to dinner. Kool. RDC is Rockywold Deephaven Camp. Read the rules. https://www.rdcsquam.com/wp-content...gs1216Proof.pdf
