Default Pizza Hut Detriot Style Pizza

Pizza Hut Detriot Style Pizza.

I lived in Lansing, MI for two years.
I have never heard of Detroit Style Pizza.
My wife is from Taylor, MI and she never mentioned DSP!
Is this the real thing?

Should I order this pie?

Help me Mr. Wizard, help me!

It's good. But it's DetROIT not DetRIOT. Although it probably should be spelled your way.

Thick "airy" crust with a second layer of sauce atop the toppings.
It's knife-and-fork pizza like Chicago (correct) style pizza. It's not that slimy, greasey, foldable New York style nonsense.
Good, but not Giordano's good.

Lou Malnotti's is better thn Giordano's. There are more good pizza joints in Northern Illinoisy than anywhere else in the USA.

The best bar none, was from the old Shield's Pizzeria on Davison freeway Detroit.
I worked for U.S. Steel (Alside Supply) at Finkel and Linwood, we would get 3 Large deep pan pies for the Employees and the Customers. we would close down from 11:30 until 2:00 every
Friday. I would drive the boss and another helper to get the pies. After the feast we would have
so many orders to fill, those pies shure were good at getting customers to buy Aluminum Siding
and Gutters.

There is a Shield's Pizza on Telegraph in Southfield.
VERY GOOD Pizza. We used to hold corporate functions there.
That location is still open, but not sure about the Detroit Davison Freeway one.

I rate Shield's a notch below Giordano's in Chicago and Orlando, which I rate FAR and ABOVE any other place anywhere.

I've lived here 30 years and have never heard of "Detroit pizza."

When I think "Detroit pizza" I think petroleum-byproduct-cheese, never-saw-the-inside-of-a-cow, spackling-paste-crust , Little Caeser's pizza. Unbelievably cheap, yet oh so over-priced!

Here's an explanation, but reviews are apparently so so.

It's a fairly new terminology.
Like Chicago style, but crust more airy.

GH, do they still have Pasquales in the Detroit area ? that was some good Italian food back in the day.
Also Buscemi's made a good take out pie.

So, down here in South Florida we have the bottom of the barrel of Pizza.
The best chain Pizza is Marco's, but way to salty for my taste, Dominos= card board & SALT.
Annie's is the best non chain pizza, they use very quality ingredients, and a bakers pride oven.
The Best pizza in South Florida of all time is gone. That was Zuccarelli's. Zuccarelli's was in business for 30 + years in the same spot. When I moved out here in 1989, Johnny Z was the owners son, soon John and I became good friends, our kids went to school together.
3 years ago John told me he was calling it quits. no one else in the family wanted to run the store
and the rent was getting to high. so in 2018 the Margate Zuccarelli's was no more.
The Family has 3 more locations, but they don't bake a pie like Jonny did.
