I only buy classics when I get them for a relative bargain.
A K41 Mercury Redstone kit went for over $202 last week which is insanity.
I was less than mint too. Beat up hang tag and slightly faded header card.
I still have two, one opened.
I sold one about 3 years ago when I was "thinning the herd" of multiples that I knew would not build. The $125 I got then was INSANELY HIGH. I sold an original bagged but opened Enerjet Nike Smoke in a private sale for over $300. I paid $78 for it 3 years prior, intending to build it.
Just could not turn down the 4x purchase price. It was complete, but opened.

GH,

Same here as to old classic kits. The '60's Astron Alpha from a few years ago was a good
deal @ ~ $15. Got an opened A-20 Demon for roughly $30.

The person who sold that Estes catalog had a 1964 that went for $230 or so.

I can see ponying up for an original MMI set, or old motors, etc. but hell, I have plenty
of stuff to stare at as it is .

Bob

The same seller that had this latest Estes catalog of which we are discussing also had a 1962 Coaster catalog. I had never seen a Coaster catalog that old for sale before, so I got it at $45, which I thought was reasonable. Coaster was a very early model rocket manufacturer as most here know, and was the basis of the larger motor line that Centuri would eventually offer after Lee purchased Coaster around '64 or so I think.

Send it to Sven at Ninfinger. He'll scan it, put it up on his site and send the catalog back to you.

I bought 3 Enerjet motors about 7 years ago.
I think I paid less than $140 total for one each of the F67, F52, and E24. They are not boxed, but fully functional unfired motors that have handwritten date codes.
Adjusting for inflation since 1972, when the F's were like $6 something each, that's no real appreciation.

I know they are rare (not sure why). How hard is it to find is a yellow tag X-Ray? Not even in great condition .... tag pealed, hole in bag and screw eye missing

Shows what happens when a bidding war occurs.
That kit in the yellow hang tag version is much more rare than the full-color header version, but still not all that rare overall.

That thing is worth about $1.98 and not a penny more.

Earl,

The first thing I thought was "Phantom Electro-Launch." I hope no one falls for this one...

I had a Phantom E-L that was found in an old hobby shop in Arlington, Tx. back around '86-'87. Used it for quite a few years; unfortunately sold it on e-bay many years ago.

Bob
p.s. the shop was The Whistle Stop IIRC.
