Default Clacs from video

Ok so i managed a few captures
from the capture , could the following be loosley calculated

1. Altitude
I would think an altitude estimate could be made based on visusal references
( un a frame i have 2 known points , the rocket body , and a road ) I should think an altitude measurement could be derived
2. Speed
Once the alt is estimated , could not speed be measred?

So whats the speed of an average rocket with streamers falling , if it took 10sec to hit terra firma , from late in the apogee , could we not guesstimate?

Also
If you put a gum camin a rocket , busted mach , would you hear the engines? ,
The audio I got is really freaky

and at what point would the speed out run the scanning ability of the device ?

I should have never done this as all it does is makes for even more questions

You have to know the focal length of the lens, and the size of the sensor. Barring that, you can guestimate it by calibrating against known objects and distances.

as far as sound is concerned, you probably wouldn't hear a sonic boom because the shock cone is probably static in relation to the rocket. You'd hear normal turbulence over the microphone and any internal vibrations.

Default ok and here we go

Since i manage a pol of programmers , One of the kids is building an app . ( there are some smart kids i hired
He is building an app , that based off of ( alot of this i dont undersdand) you will be able to enter the size of any known object in a frame , then the apparent size of it in the frame and it will calc the distance , then he added a down range thing , so when you enter that it will correct for somthing or another . Also (some how with the frame count) he is adding a speed estimator .
So once we know the lense thing , and he has a method for doing that. It will support multiple camersa .

Honestly I dont know how half of it actually works , but it will be cool. And i think he will give it away or accept donations . my investment thusfar is an estes patriot kit

Included is his GUI layout , it dont work , but its sort of how we do things here

I've finally had time to make some videos and upload them to YouTube. These are from my first attempts at flying a gum camera last November.

Search for "mnrocketry", or go to http://www.youtube.com/user/mnrocketry

I just noticed a familiar looking camera in the latest Sky Mall catalog .... and it's only $99! Quite a bargain. :-)

Actually, 99 bucks is a bargain by Sky Mall standards I remember flying TWA years ago, looking in their catalog and seeing a radio that cost something like 50 bucks plus 10,000 frequent flier miles. While I couldn't buy that exact radio at a store, I'm quite sure I coulda gotten something every bit as nice for only the 50 bucks and saved my miles. The idea is supposed to be that you're cashing in miles and saving bucks, but I never saw anything that looked like a bargain.

Clean GUI, not too many inputs, which makes it simple to use.

Here are some immediate issues that I can see:
  • How many people know what the true width of a road is?
  • Are you including the 'rumble strips' to either side?
  • While the metric system is common for most of the world, America is based on the Imperial measurement system. We need a conversion routine for Metric/Imperial.

Let your programmer know there is interest in his work! We need all sorts of utility programs for rocketry, and this one looks like it could fill a niche.
