Estes Maxi V2 Fins
I am building one of these and I am getting ready to attach the plastic fins. The instructions say attach with liquid plastic cement and do the fillets with plastic modeling putty.
Is this the method you would use? What brands would you use? Thanks. |

I would use Plastruct Bondene for Cement. Is exactly same formula as no-longer-available Tenax 7R. If you cant find that, try Tamiya Quick Setting Extra Thin Cement.
For putty, I would use Squadron White or Gray putty.

Have you built the fins yet? If not, take a look at the following thread on the other forum: https://www.rocketryforum.com/threa...ute-v-2.140236/

I followed the same method of adding the Balsa inserts to the fins as referenced in the link above and it worked out great. For attaching the fins, I drilled 1/8 holes in the tail cone then sanded the two mating areas with rough 80 or 100 grit paper. I then attached each fin using BSI 30 min epoxy and made sure to smooth out where it leaked through into the tail cone. In doing this, I made sure there was enough epoxy that it would squeeze out around the fins. Using a finger dipped in alcohol, I smoothed the joint, so no additional fillets were needed. Afterwards I used some automotive spot putty to fill in a couple of spots here and there. The rocket has flown 7 times according to my logs without any issues. |
