Smile New Design: Lighthawk Interceptor

Had some real trouble coming up with a name for this design and finally settled on Lighthawk Interceptor. The swept back wings look kind of like a hawk in a dive. This design has both good altitudes and excellent Dv's on four of the 18mm motors. Also added some fins to the inside of the tube fins of some interesting details. It should prove to be an interesting build and even more so to test fly. Add another to the evergrowing build pile.

3rd Annual

Enjoy and Merry Christmas to ALL, JP.

Exclamation New Plan -- Aggressor

This design may have just uncovered another flaw. Someone tell me how likely it is to get a 3.2 oz model to 655' on a single C6-5...

Here's the Aggressor, one of the sketches from November, which is an extreme asymetrical rocket. I call it the "ice sled in space"...

Length: 25.68"
Diameter: 1.04" (ST-10)
Fin Span: 17.69"
Weight: 3.2 oz

B6-4......267'......Dv 20 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod
C6-5......655'......Dv 16 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod

The margin is 1.57 on the B6-4, and 1.24 on the C6-5. It took a 1/8 oz mass in the forward section to get it to balance properly. I think this is yet another issue...

I'll be sending bug reports to TVM and PF shortly...

Otherwise, Enjoy!

Default Design Count Update...

518...

Note: Neither Aggressor, nor Star Legionaire, have been added to the list. The most recent addition was JP's post from today.

The reason I haven't posted any new RS9 designs is because I've been using the "scale" factor to upscale the Tau Zero to SLS ("Semroc Large Scale") ~175% size.

It upscales the tubes, nose cones, and fin material by length *and* thickness! My 3/32" (0.0938") balsa fins upscaled to 0.1642" T.

RS9 does weird things to fins inside tubes in the 2D view. So I requested my license to see if the updated build makes any difference before shooting a bug report off to Tim and Paul.

(Thanks for the license/update propaganda, Steve. )

Cheers,

One of the fixes in B65 did correct a fin positioning problem. But now I've just sent T&P a few additional bugs to look at. Some of my buttons don't respond...

Exclamation New Design -- Nebula Rat

Well, here's yet another effort to break R9 before it even gets shipped. I'm succeeding!

Length: 10.375"
Diameter: 0.908" (ST-8)
Fin Span: 3.94" (BT-101)
Weight: 1.18 oz

I have not simulated this yet, as the CG is behind the CP. The margin reads -11.55!!!

Study it and enjoy the freedom to create things we can't simulate yet!

Exclamation New Plan -- Willit

Finally got one to work without major issues!

This is another ring tail. I'm not especially fond of them, since RS doesn't really know how to deal with them, but they do make for some interesting concept designs...

Length: 18.00"
Diameter: 1.04" (BC-760)
Fin Span: 3.94" (BT-101)
Weight: 1.09 oz

B6-2......179'......Dv 2.08 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod
B4-2......185'......Dv 3.46 FPS......36" x 1/8" rod

Enjoy!

Smile New Design: Stump Jumper

This next design called the Stump Jumper looks simular to an Big Bertha but is quite different. I used the BNC-60 AL for the
nose cone along with the 5 inch BT-60R and the BTC-60A hollow balsa transition to crerate the main body of this design.
All of these parts are Semroc "Classic" parts which I have recently added to my parts database.
So many parts and so many new design ideas, Thanks Carl!

Exclamation New Plan -- Zorchou

It's nice when a design works. This one took some tweaking, and probably could use some additional trimming, but it seems to work well enough to try building a prototype.

Length: 19.17"
Diameter: 0.908" (ST-8)
Fin Span: 6.3"
Weight: 1.11 oz

The simulation runs are attached below. The best motor is the A10-3T.

Enjoy!
