I retire next year, so I will be home more to fly my airplanes and rockets. California was just too hard to enjoy my Hobby, I am lazy and do not want to drive 2 hours to fly.

I love to build old models balsa, model rockets and plastic kits from the 70s and 80s. It is more about having fun and not sweating the small stuff. The Guillows models are built out of the box with no attempt to make them lighter. I do have to make a removable plastic cowl on the larger kits so I can fit the rubber motor. Also, I will add wire landing gear if the plans only show a straight pin used as a wheel axle. I think everyone was surprised that I was able to get the Sterling Piper Cub to fly. When I get back to TN, I am going to try and get my vintage Sterling Fokker up in the air. I still have all my build rockets and planes in boxes from the move. I have a bonus room/hobby room that I need to finish out before I can get crazy.

I have NEVER seen Guillows or Sterling balsa models fly decently.
Usually they are a warped-up mess.

Back in college, a buddy of mine decided he wanted to get into R/C with a 1/2a Sterling or Guillows Cessna for a "trainer". Naturally he also chose a junky 2-stick 2 channel radio. He was notoriously cheap.
Junk reed-valve .049 too.
Trying to get that thing to fly was pure folly.
I let him fly my Goldberg Eagle 63 on a trainer cord. He was NOT destined to be a pilot of ANYTHING.

Since rediscovering dope and tissue for my NARTrek boost-glider qualifier, I've been wanting to have a go at a plane. Your Fokker has me inspired. I'm going to see if I can find a Guillow's or Sterling D.VIII .

Oh, and the rockets were cool, too.
