Cluster Start
What kind of starters did you use?
Did the tumble happen because the engines had the delay start? Doing a version of the Beach Abort Boiler plate. Found a Video, not real good, but I was able to get some screen shots for reference. Drew the project last Saturday, now need to add engine/recovery system before printing. Mike |

Wowwww....
A PMC that actually WORKED !

So the escape module rocket is pretty cool.
But I was just having a thought yesterday when I was prepping my mercury redstone build that happens to coincide with this thread... I was wondering if anybody has done a 2 stage rocket that launches and then ejects the capsule with the escape ladder setup (?). I know timing would take some tweeking but could it be done by maybe using one of those fancy chute deployment computers (?). |

There are not any engines small enough to fit in the scale escape tower engine nozzles to perform that action on any existing Mercury Redstone kit.

I wasn't plannig on using the actual redstone, that's just what made me think of it.
And I'm pretty sure you can jam some micro maxx motors into a Saturn V |

None of those motors will fit in any sort of scale location on a 1/100 Saturn V or 1/35 Mercury Redstone escape tower and look anywhere near scale. Won't work on a 1/70 Saturn either.
In my book, if it doesn't LOOK scale correct, it's "Malarkey/Bunk/Guff/Shenanigans/Balderdash/Hogwash/Baloney".

I have very little knowledge on rebuildable motors, but wouldn't it be possible to create you own reloadable can to scale to match the escape tower engine? |

I use e-matches.. Chinese E-Match Quote:
I think it's just the nature of the beast. If you look at the NASA footage of the real beach launch abort test it does the same tumbling after the motors stop thrusting. See photos below.

Cool flight.
I like your avatar as well. Doesn't look like you used "Acme" motors though, thankfully. Those would have "blown up" for sure. Somebody MUST have "yanked the leever" just like Evel Knievel on that "Snake River Canyon" launch. NOBODY will convince me that Evel did not BAIL on that flight without IRREFUTABLE video evidence.

Every indicator pointed to him likely becoming hamburger in short order. Most folks would have backed out and not done the event, based on all the data that pointed to it failing. Yeah, he may have been a real jerk in real life, I don't care. He was an entertainer, and in that role, I can't think of anybody that had bigger cajones.
