New Design: Alchemy
This design is called Alchemy and for good reason. It is a combination of different parts from four different Rocksim designers here on this forum. I wonder if you folks can guess what designs and who made them? All in all this design was really fun and turned out an very interesting mixture of designs.
Enjoy and Thanks Again, JP James Pierson NAR# 77907 |

Jay hazards a partial guess...

Athough after perusing the RockSim file, I'd recommend just skipping the "A" motor and going right to the B's and C's... (see my Sirius "Interrogator" EMRR review ) *after* you replaced that SE-12 screw eye with an SE-14!!! Overall, though... very cool, JP! Cheers,

I've figured it out... It's right on the tip of everyone's tongue, and here's a clue: It's the transition section, although James' version is a bit simplified. Think of the Laser-X. The fourth contributor is Carl@Semroc... Very good combination of ideas, James! And although the A8-3 doesn't give it much of an altitude boost, I like it in the list. It allows you to fly in tight areas without having it drift away. Addendum: I also just noticed it qualifies for the VR class...

Nope, about Carl as a conrtibutor there Craig, and its not the Laser X design either. It is however a Century design however. Here is a clue, the Rocksim design file was an SLS catagory and used a G-37 motor in one flight sim.

Thanks Craig for posting the design of the fins for the Andromeda. I plan on building one of these, probably upscaling it a bit and using a 24mm motor mount. However, it's probably #10 or 11 in my build queue. I do have a week and a half off of work at Christmas, so it may be flying in the spring.

I may re-work the fins a bit, as I see some weak places in the structure toward the rear shroud. I didn't realize how little fin material was left over that area. If you add another 1/16" of balsa over the top of the shroud here, it might be easier to cut the notch.

I'm ashamed to say I don't recognize the source. I've looked through nearly a years' worth of posted plans, and cannot find the one you're referring to. Perhaps it wasn't posted in this thread? Can one presume it still has to do with that transition?

My Guess
Looks a little like the Pointy Thang Craig did. Transition to front of BT instead of rear.

I think my contribution was just the fins. Jay's piece was the nose cone, and James' direct contribution (aside from designing it) was the Shrox-inspired ping pong ball. The remaining contribution has a Centuri connection, and was represented (as James said) with a RockSim file earlier using a G37 motor. Buzz suggests it was the "Vector V" design, but it must have been on another thread, or more than a year ago if it was on this thread. I'm drawing a total blank. But it'll be one of those "doh!" moments when James tells us the answer...
