Sorry it took so long to get back on this one. I tried moving the outer tubes around to see what the changes might be, and didn't really notice anything that helped. Maybe I just need to look harder. What I really think is RockSim doesn't know how to deal with that type of asymetry, and just fudges the figures to what it's preprogrammed to understand. That our asymetrical designs seem to function as calculated may be as much accidental as it is planned...

Exclamation New Plan -- CenturiJet 1524

This was just an exercise to start using some of Carl's other components. It's got the lines I think we all seem to like, borrowing heavily from the EnerJet and Centuri catalogs. The performance is not too bad, either. I was trying to get low Dv numbers using SU motors, while still getting good altitude numbers.

Length: 38.5"
Diameter: 1.59" (LT-150)
Fin Span: 7.59"
Weight: 5.15 oz

D12-5.......684'......Dv 6 FPS.......48" launch rod
D10-5.......836'......Dv 12 FPS......48" launch rod
E30-7......1620'......Dv 4 FPS.......36" launch rod
E15-7......1702'......Dv 18 FPS......36" launch rod
F24-7......1894'......Dv 2 FPS.......36" launch rod

Enjoy!

Default It's Deja-Vu all over again...

Yes...To answer the question for everyone wondering if I've lost my memory and my mind with some of these last few models...

I've misplaced it somewhere on a shelf about three designs out of my reach...

Never mind it's also in a different room...

Head colds, bronchial asthma, and miserable weather make for a nasty brew this time of year...

What's the classic statement..."I've felt better, but I got over it..."

Think of this as a large, fat Spear Tip. Plywood fins, 1/8" thick. Good Dv numbers.

Lightbulb New Design: Mace

Great job with the recent designs Craig. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Been so busy lately that I have some catching up to do with you folks. As I was watching the History channel on some midievil weapons I came up with this design called Mace that looks close to the original that was shown. No running with scissors or with this design please! This thing has ouch! written all over it. "Careful Kid You Will Shoot Your Eye Out" seems to come to mind.

Lightbulb New Design: Mini-Jet #10

Here is Mini-Jet #10 as well. I wonder if there would be any interest in a group of mini-Starfighters? Gets a guy to thinkin' anyways. Never seems to be enough time for all the ideas anyways.

Enjoy and Thanks Again, JP

Exclamation New Plans -- Educator Series

OK, this is a no-frills, bare-bones type of model that is intended for school classroom and scouting troop "build-em-fly-em" projects. You will note the similarity to a certain Centuri design with the same heritage, but that really is accidental and unintended. As was noted with another design recently, five fins has a notable impact on the stability of a model over a model with four, yet six fins doesn't seem to produce as drastic an improvement over the five.

Each Educator fits into a power level that is comparable to the skill of the builder. The "A" model is a single 18mm design using the ST-8 tube. The "B" model uses the ST-10, but is powered with a 24mm motor. The "C" model is a cluster design using LT-175 tubing and three 18mm motors. The general idea is to progress from the low-power "A" up to the cluster "C" during the course of several sessions.

-----------------------------------

Educator A:

Length: 16.7"
Diameter: 0.908" (ST-8)
Fin Span: 2.91"
Weight: 0.95 oz

A8-3.......315'......Dv 24 FPS
B6-6.......714'......Dv 22 FPS
C6-7......1448'......Dv 20 FPS

-----------------------------------

Educator B:

Length: 22.5"
Diameter: 1.04" (ST-10)
Fin Span: 4.04"
Weight: 1.11 oz

C11-5.......940'......Dv 24 FPS
D12-7......1642'......Dv 22 FPS
E9-6.......2463'......Dv 30 FPS

------------------------------------

Educator C:

Length: 28"
Diameter: 1.84" (LT-175)
Fin Span: 5.84"
Weight: 4.63 oz

(3) A8-3.......191'......Dv 2 FPS
(3) B4-4.......505'......Dv 21 FPS
(3) B6-4.......516'......Dv 26 FPS
(3) C6-7......1198'......Dv 21 FPS

------------------------------------

All models and all motor combinations launch easily from a standard 36" rod.

Enjoy!

Default Fin Pattern -- Andromeda

Here's the templates for the Andromeda fins. Be careful when cutting the slots for the shrouds, as this is a tricky fit. You may need to assemble the fins first, then cut the fins across the whole assembly even with the inside diameter of the shroud, and finally trim out the shroud areas from the outer fin section before gluing it back in place. Use 1/8" hardwood dowels for the connectors in the tips and intermediate stretchers.

Addendum: I did not show the notch for the HTC-7B coupler used to hold the engine hook in place, as some might not want to include a hook and just go "friction fit". Personally, I'd use the hook...
