Sam-3
Thanks, Scott, for the scans of the Centuri SAM-3!
I was looking for an exclusivve SAM kit and it looks good. It is a very loose semi-scale of the Russian SA-3/S-125 missile. Retail will be about $16.00, but we are thinking of offering it as a free kit for SAM members only. We are also thinking about a decal sheet for it that includes blocks of personalized SAM #'s for it and other models. Thoughts, suggestions??

Very nice little model. How about a 1/2" card-stock boattail?

Maybe it's my warped sense of humor but the truck in the photo has a target on the door. Carl Great idea can't wait. John Ludwig

Peru - nothing but a target. Or perhaps there is a secret retailer paramilitary organisation out there?

Not a drop. Not sure of the pantone but the dimension and scaling is the same.

There was a Russian 2M at Paris a few years back with a white/red scheme. All the fins were red.

I think China owns Wal*Mart and Russia owns Target. If this was Chinese the trucks would have the giant * on the doors.

Like I said, it is very loose! A boat tail would make it unstable. Moving the two small fins forward to the smaller section would make it unstable. Making the large fins scale would make it unstable. replacing the upper tube with a tapered section would be a real pain.
I think Centuri took the easy path and still would up with stability problems. It takes the large screw eye and washer weight to make it marginally stable with a C6. It is a nice model, even with its non-scale features. It would be fun to make the booster fins hinged like the original so they swing out and back. Maybe the Magnum SAM-3 scale might be better for that!
